Hey,

I got carpal tunnel syndrome. I like to see my .orgah's advice and stories about stuff.

If you guys got any good advice/stories, tell me, advice helps me, stories entertain me, and I be asking my doctor, don't want to do something bad from you guys and stuff (j/k)

And your tongue too. Then take a picture of it and post it here so we can all laugh at your misfortune. :laugh4: :smash: :beam:

CTS is basically a renamed, version of RSI. IIRC, the tendons in the wrist inflame, and pinch the nerves against the bone. Causing pain and inability to use your hands and wrists.

Where your hand and wrist meet, you have a carpal tunnel. Beneath the skin where you can see the crease where that wrist-palm joint is, you have a band that almost looks like a subdurmal watch band. On some people, this band is naturally a little too tight, which can be problematic since all of the nerves that control you're finger movements are bundled up and run through this tunnel.

The pressure on this nerve bundle gets excacerbated when you do alot of movements or spend alot of time with the wrist either flexed or extended (typing on a keyboard with no wrist support, a waiter carrying a tray underneath with one hand).

You might just need an ergonomic keyboard to fix the problem, but alot of them are crap, you're doctor or ortho could prolly recommend a nice one. If not, a wrist cock-up splint that would keep the tunnel in the neutral position (less pressure on the tunnel which the nerves run through) should most likely do the trick. If it gets very bad over the years, they can go in and do a carpal tunnel release, where they just cut through the 'watch band' I mentioned earlier, and then I could spend six weeks with you afterwards cleaning the surgery site and making sure you get your range of motion back.

Still hate the idea of Surgery... YUCK
Dad had this in his 20's, had it bad(sometimes he could not even hold a coffee cup), but it went away in couple years.
Proably going to cut back on the comp (helps my eyesight to lol) and use a wrist brace, mabye give my wrists hot hand baths, that should work.

Maybe you've just got tendonitis and it's not yet full blown carpal tunnel syndrome. You have to be careful with this or it can become a chronic carpal tunnel condition necessitating surgery for relief. If it's just tendonitis, it will get better if you rest your wrist, but it could take weeks of rest. This means no computer gaming until it gets better.

If your injury is related to the mouse and playing a lot of MP games, you can do some things that will help prevent injury to your wrist. Get a light weight mouse with easy to push buttons. I use a wired optical mouse. Wireless mice are too heavy to push around. Then even more importantly, get a small table that's just below the height of your elbow when you are seated at the computer and put the mousepad and mouse on that. This means using a chair that doesn't have arms. If your chair has arms, you could get a mousepad that can be mounted on the arm of the chair. Don't use a mousepad with a wrist rest because they tend to cause you to flex your wrist when you move the mouse. You should move the mouse by moving your shoulder and elbow, and keep your wrist straight. You can also increase the mouse sensitivity so that you don't have to physically move the mouse as far.

Good luck, and definitely follow your doctor's advice.

BTW, heat isn't going to help if the problem is pressure on the nerve because heat will just cause more swelling. You should use cold. If it's just strained tendons, heat might help. A wrist brace will help initially, but it alone isn't a solution because your wrist will get weaker the longer you use the brace which will make your wrist more prone to injury.

Puzz, Good Post. Didn't know some of that stuff you saw, even thoguh I researched it several times. I got 2-3 weeks before MTW2 comes out, so I'll rest my wrists and see how they feel then :)

As arousing as some of the babe thread ladies might be, I don't think any of them are going to be able to give you priapism unless they feed you a vast overdose of viagra.

I just happened to look up Priapism.

I saw the words "erection" and "gangrene" and stopped reading.

I'm going to go sit in a corner and cry.

It takes several hours before that happens, and I'm pretty sure most blokes would have the sense to see a doctor before that.

You'd better hope the drugs they give you work, though, because the surgical interventions they do after that are decidedly unpleasant.

I looked up the wikipedia article.

It's now up there as one of those fears which will one day return to ruin some romantic moment. Ugh.

Don't worry. Penis removal isn't fatal, and you can still play computer games.
