The speed slider really needs to come back! In rtw it was extremely annoying because for some reason it was very hard to push the little buttons you'd click and click and it wouldn't go back to normal speed. i could never get it to work unless i paused it and clicked play again. the speed slider was much faster less fiddly and did the job fine. bring back the speed slider or an option to use it! Would ti be that hard to patch in?

That is a problem. Increasing the speed invariable decreases the framerate, and input becomes unresponsive. It is difficult to return to normal speed in RTW. I don't think bringing the slider back would make a huge difference though.

You could always press CTRL+T to triple the speed, and again to return to normal. I find that's easier to go about than the buttons.

it still takes a bunch of tries to work. The speed slider is so much easier and faster!

Edit the control config so you have a single button for normal speed eg I use F6 key. (with f5 as pause & f7 as full)
Then when you are on full speed & need to go back to normal, you can just pound that key till it works without fear of setting it back to full speed like with ctrl t.

The speed slider would be just as unreponsive. Speed slider or buttons, the underlying code was the problem not the interface.

i want to see the speed slider return! just make it so it cant go any faster than the maximum speed you can select in the demo so you dont get too much slow down.

the beauty of the slider is that you can adjust the speed to how you like it. if you want to play on easy and cant wait to pwn everything you can use it to just move up to the enemy and then charge in and watch the combat animations at normal speed. hopeful the kill rate is going to be not too insane like rome so you can actually watch the fighting going on for more than a minute.

veterains can keep the speed slider slower and thus use some tactics and just speed things up for those long marches to the high ground or whatever

It would be nice to see a speed slider that slowed down combat. This has long been a request conveniently ignored by CA in all their games.

Like Duke John said, the coding probably makes it impossible.
Since they know there's demand, if it could have been done it would have been done.

And just because they haven't done it doesn't mean they ignored it.

I don't get why you guys want the speed slider back.

Buttons or slider - it's the same difference. You need to speed up combat a little? Click the speed-up-a-little button. Speed it up a lot? The speed-up-a-lot button. This is vastly simpler than the speed slider and accomplishes the same goal - honestly, do you REALLY need to have your speed playing at 3.7% faster or 5.4% slower than the buttons offered can give you?

I've never had problems clicking the buttons; if you've had them, then that's YOUR game or computer's fault, not CA's. In any case, it'd just mean you'd have the same problem with the slider - as someone mentioned, it's the code not the interface that is apparently giving you problems.

You know what I see this thread, and so many threads like it, as? Politicking. There's a segment of this forum population that acts very "elitist", with their definition of that being "I loved MTW and hated RTW." If you happened to like RTW, your opinion is automatically discredited. If, on the other hand, you jump on the bandwagon of "CA SUCKS BECAUSE THEY DO EXACTLY WHAT I WANT THEM TO DO!", you find yourself with a bunch of preppy allies willing to back your "opinions" up automatically.

It's disgusting, and I'm tired of it. I played STW, and while I remember it with nothing but very fond memories, I also distinctly remember my being able to win virtually every campaign only with vast hordes of Yari Samurai, with some No Dachi's tossed in for some flavor. When I played RTW, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven; my blog found itself occupied with all sorts of battle summaries and analyses that I knew nobody who read it cared about but didn't faze me in the least. Yes, it had its bugs, but I hardly noticed any of them until I started going to these forums and seeing all of you snobs point out these zillions of things which I'd never even noticed until then. I'm a history freak who does historical reenacting (Roman historical reenacting, primarily) and hates that movies like300 are being made, but while I appreciate the efforts that teams like RTR and EB make to create things, and while I too found featuring Gladiators and Arcani as silly, I don't honestly give a :furious3: if the Brutii wear bright green tunics or if this X faction really should own Y city because it clearly said so under the Treaty of Z, Section 99, Paragraph 16, signed in Who-The-Heck-Cares, so long as the gameplay remains awesome (which it is, and don't any of you deny it). And, you know what? RTW isn't that wrong on a lot of things, and is certainly capable of teaching things. How many of you knew - honestly - about hastati, principes, andtriarii, all of which are represented well in the game, before you played RTW, or where the heck Pontus was (or even heard of it)?

For those of you shaking your heads and thinking, "Pffft, RTW fanboi n00b..." - stop it. Stop thinking so highly of yourselves for insulting CA - which, of all gaming corporations that exist, is so obscenely better than most others in terms of fan relations that it's almost funny - and insulting people who, like me, are satisfied with what we get.

Would I like some changes to RTW? Sure. To M2TW? Absolutely. But, for the most part, I plan on enjoying myself with an excellent game in peace.

And you should let others do that too.

Ok now I'm mad.

What proof do you have that I'm just nitpicking for the sake of it?? You go on a huge long tirade than lumps everyone in the forum togerter like your some kind of all knowing uber vet who's seen it all. The reason I want sliders instead is a combination of with my bad eyesight I find buttons harder to see, and that its easier to quickly drag a slider back down to normal speed than trying to click a small button and the fact that the speed buttons are buggy and often take allot of clicks to work often making you pause the game first before you can put it back to normal speed the code is buggy. for our information i loved RTW, it was amazing and ive played many many hours of it it was better than mtw. .Did you mean the bandwagon of "they don't do what i want them to do"? Dude its called consumer feedback not simply complaining for the sake of it there a problem with the buggy code that needs fixing. Your the last person hat should be calling anyone a fanboy with you fanatical pro CA anti everyone else opinions. Why dont you stop generalizing everyone an try thinking about what they mean by their post first. If you cant do that simply cease posting because your rants all nothing to the board and are simply trolls.

I like the slider way better as well. At the very least, it gives you the option of the speed being way, way more than 3X. I found it useful on the beginning stages of battle or when routing the enemy and I don't feel like giving chase anymore.

Discrete steps allow changing the speed in multiplayer.
