While on the topic of cheese curd, arguably the greatest snack known to man, my friends and I stumbled across a series of wikipedia articles that mention that cheese curd is often deep-fried in the Midwest region of the USA. Can anyone here confirm this? If so, how do they taste?

As well, it says that in the USA, deep-fried cheese curds are now a nationwide addition to the menu. Is this also true? How are they, after they've been shipped to and fro for days at a time?

Culver's has some great ones! Hover your mouse over the Dairyland Cheese Curd (http://www.culvers.com/Menu/MenuBoard_Popups/Menu_FriesRingsThings.html#) for a look.

I've only ever seen cheese curds in Wisconsin (not that I've really looked in other places), and I've never heard of deep fried ones, much less seen any type of cheese curd on any menu anywhere.

Around here (NJ) we have a Hires Root Beer Restaurant and they offer "Cheese Curds" that appear to be like a mozzarella stick only with cheddar cheese.

I've never seen deep fried cheese curds outside of Wisconsin, but they are deep fried. The article is pretty accurate, but if your going to eat cheese curds I would reccomend not going to Culvers or A&W, and try to find a local bar instead.

Fried mozzarella sticks.

We used to eat them at a restaurant my friend worked at. Every day they cooked a whole pig and made Porchetta sandwiches. An pile of sliced pork on a bun with gravy and mozzarella sticks on the side.

Cheese curds, hell. Down here, we deep fry Twinkies and Snicker's bars.

I AM NOT JOKING.

But my local bar doesn’t have a website with a photo of them.

I have found that some bars only stock the bulk bags of the same crap they get at some wholesale food store while others get some really good ones. To me going to the bar is just as much about snacks and nice waitresses as it is about drinking! ~

Ok. If you have to deep fry cheese, one should start with camembert. Add some forest fruits, and give this beauty thing some crispy skin.

Be a god.
