Im not quite sure if this is a universal thing, but I've experienced many circumstances where my Saved Games fails to load (hangs during loading page). It's mostly commonly after a 3D combat.
Fortunately before smashing my laptop, I found a-way-around:
You have to enter the campaign menu and start a new Imperial Campaign game. After you enter the main political map screen, load your game. The game should successfully load.
It works like a charm on my laptop, if anyone has the same experience please report back in this thread
