I know where the numbers are in these races, and I know that they are there for the 15; today (it's) 22 to 26," Pelosi said Friday.

[Podcast: Mark Sandalow with Nancy Pelosi on elections, Iraq and SF. ]

Pelosi cautioned that the number of Democratic House victories could be higher or lower and said her greatest concern is over the integrity of the count -- from the reliability of electronic voting machines to her worries that Republicans will try to manipulate the outcome.

"That is the only variable in this," Pelosi said. "Will we have an honest count?''

So the only way republicans can win is to cheat like usual. Glad to see she escaped from where ever they were holding her. A few more remarks from her and Kerry and the GOP might just pull this thing out.

I normally counter vote. So I will vote in Australia for the local MP that fits my own views the nearest and then I will vote for the opposite party for the senate (as that will stop any rubber stamp body forming of the same party in both sections of parliament). So in the American system it would be the local candidate who represents me closest for the House and then the opposite party for the senate.

I like my checks and balances and I normally do my best to insure it at the ground roots level... my vote.

We call it split ticketing or gridlock. Usual split here is legislative = A, Executive = B. Lemur loves this.

The thing that makes it slightly different here is that it is more then a two-party system. Even the ruling federal party is in fact a coalition of two National and Liberal (which in Aus is the equivalent of the Republicans), while the main opposition party is Labor (with Social Democrats and Greens thrown into the mix).

Heh, straight GOP for me. The other residents of WA will take care of any ticket splitting.

Lemur hearts checks and balances. (I can hear the mean kids singing it now, "Lemur and tripartite government, sittin' in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G ...")

The company that was given the contracts (by the GOP) - Diebolt? - has contributed over $20M to the GOP. None of their machines have any real safe guards. It is not so much a stupid statement - as a prediction.

Were things reversed? It might well be the same.

This election? if the gop stays the course and their majority cross the board? Then, yeah - cheat.

The security minded NBC pushed a show called NSA in 2003 - 'til they realised it was hurting their Machiavelian efforts. The first episode depicted their defeating an despot that opposed the USa by using electronic devises to circumvent the elections in favor of "our" candidate. Unfortunately. he went for the purple finger. So, they assassinated him instead. But, did it in away that made it look like his second in command did it. Pretty cool, eh?
The second show was about the righteousness of torture - how we got to do it because our enemies are.

Then the program ended. Probably because the point was lost.

Which is the point here. Pray to God the Dems win. Other wise, we all lose.

As a kid my parents taught me - if the incumbent ain't doing it for you - vote against them. it is better to be wrong, than to be right for a thief.
