A man who runs a fish and chip shop is being investigated by the council after someone complained that his shop smelt of -shock, horror- fish and chips.
Don't you just love modern Britain?

Even the council said that they weren't too sure what was going on, but were required to investigate. Non-story.

Council in a loose-loose situation. If they do they look like acting as part of a Nanny State. If they don't, well, they're not listening to their borough members.

Something fishy was going on at the shop.

Sorry, the pun was there and I took it. I am a sick person. :shame:

I think the problem is more with the idiot who complained about it in the first place-

If the person lodging the complaint moved in knowing of the restaurant, then it seems to me it is his/her problem, not the shop's. If the person was living there before the shop moved in, then maybe they have a legitimate complaint. It seems odd that an Englishman would complain about the smell of fish and chips - unless the person isn't English. :inquisitive:

Is this just part of the EU-ization of the UK (http://ec.europa.eu/research/environment/projects.cfm?p=1&l=3&sc=1&id=x1-1-4&pmenu=off) ?

I've always wished Long John Silvers (the closest we get to fish-and-chips) smelt more like Burger King [:/sarcasm off:]

Nice excuse to “investigate” the restaurants menu a few dozen times on the Gov’s tab.~D

We do have some weird people in Britain these days. I to presume that the reporter who reported the shop was from some far out country where they have never ever seen/smelt a fish and chip shop.

Unfortunately because Mr Morton is probably not a muslim running a kebab shop or indian take away, he can't pull out the race card on this one either! Otherwise he might have made some money for himself.

HAHAHA bash Muslims! SO FUNNY.

caravel
11-10-2006, 23:54
No, not bashing muslims. I'm bashing the government and it's policy. This ridiculous fish and chip case wouldn't have occurred if the owner had been from an ethnic minority, particularly a muslim, whom of which the government is trying so desparately not to upset at home. Basically if anyone had complained about the smell at a kebab shop or takeaway they would have seen the situation turn around very quickly into a racial harrassment charge against them. How do I know this? Because I've seen it time and time again, and happen to live and work in such an environment. Ethnic minority groups are not at fault here, it's the government. The local councils simply have nothing better to do than mess about with cases such as this. As an example: It is common here for asians to utilise "blinged" up number plates on their cars and blacked out windows. The police can't stop them because it's 'racial harrassment', and they know it. There are districts near here where the air reeks of curry as you pass by. There is nothing you can do about it either.

stupid people ... Rotorua reeks of sulphur from all the geothermal activity but nobody complains (except for out-of-towners) that is because we accept it as part of the city. If someone moves in beside a sewage treatment plant are they going to lodge a complaint to the government. NO they chose to live there.
:dizzy2:

If you don't like it move, why must people be so stupid? :shame:

Must...resist...further...puns...failing...

1) Adrian, either the plaintiff had a chip on his shoulder or he did it just for the halibut.

2) After being told of the complaint that his shop smelt of fish and chips, the shop owner told authorities, "You're crazy. I don't even sell smelt."

I'm a bad boy. :shame:

When the chips are down, you've got to make a decision. No chance to skate round the issue. Otherwise it's just rubbing salt in the wound. Now pay attention, and you'll ketchup.

I think you're all missing the real culprits here, the media and it's shoddy reporting. If it was a paper that released this non-story, it's nothing but fishwrap. And if it was the Beeb, it's time to tuna the channel.
