View Full Version : The Entrance Hall is no longer the Entrance Hall
Has anybody noticed that the Entrance Hall has recently turned into a "let's talk about anything" forum. It is supposed to be for Guild FAQs not for threads about modifications, game help and other regular all catch stuff. Really it should go back to it's original purpose of welcoming new members. So what do you think?
It changed into an talk about anything forum because juniors can't post in the front and backroom, tbh I don't care what people want to do in it, I don't visit it.

Hasn't it always been a talk about anything forum?

Not really. I think that it was originally founded as a place for junior members to say hello, although I could be wrong.

The big change is that over time we have opened up the game related forums to new members. Originally, the Entrance Hall was the main place new members posted because they could not post in the game related forums. Now they can, there is little reason for them to post game related stuff in the EH. By contrast, they can't post in the off topic forums, so they post off-topic stuff in the EH.
I think junior members have gained a lot from this liberalisation. I also think it makes more sense, for example, to have all M2TW posts in the M2TW forum. If this liberalisation does risk leaving the EH as a kind of mini-Tavern, that's a price worth paying, IMO.

Well, it was when I registered. I suppose it changes depending on when the next game is coming out. With MTW part deux coming out, lots of new members, more posts in entrance hall.
I really dont care...so I say "gah!" just to get it over with...seriously whats the big deal?
Perhaps one solution to this would be to allow junior member to post in ALL forums or to move all posts that would go better in another forum to the other forum.

If the juniors members are allowed to post everywhere, all juniors members are members with juniors at the start of the phrase.
And juniors members doesnt post in the Hail New Members thread.

I suppose so.
I was tempted to vote GAH! like I often do, but in this case I felt compelled to actually state my opinion on the subject. I know that the Entrance Hall's function and purpose has changed from what it was originally, but in this case I don't think that's a bad thing. Given that we've now opened up the majority of the forums to the junior members, I think it makes sense that the EH remains a place for them to discuss "whatever" (since they're still barred from the off-topic fora).
In addition, new members still often visit the EH anyway. I would say it continues to at least partially serve its originally-intended purpose, if not to the full extent that it once did.

Couldn't have said it better myself, econ.

Entrance hall was always a talk about everything area... just a more polite version of the Frontroom and no politics, no babe thread... basically a best behaviour area and a place for the old patrons to help out the new ones.
I can only echo the sentiments of SK, Martok, Rythmic and others. The Entrance Hall hasn't changed in my opinion, it's just the same as it's always been. TW related threads are now going into the TW forums, that's the only change.
