View Full Version : Did anyone actually get a "Limited Edition"?

maestro

I bought a copy from PC World a day before release and my Play.com order arrived today one the dayt of release and they're both boring, vanilla versions with no extras.. no map, no nothing. What ever happened to the statement that "Sega has announced that the first run of the real-time strategy game will be a limited-edition version of the game with bonus material. Those who pick up the game near its November 14 release will be rewarded with a "detailed map of the extensive game world" and the soundtrack from composer Jeff Van Dyke. The added bonuses won't cost extra"??????

I've been lied to and cheated. :furious3:

Only in the U.S they don´t get the collectors edition over there

THere is a large price difference, so you would have to specifically request the limited collecters edition. It's £45.

Did see it but it was 60 euro + . Not worth it. :)

As Night Star has said there is a Limited Edition and a Collectors Edition. The Limited edition is only shipped within the US because they don't have the Collectors Edition over there. The Limited Edition is supposedly given to all people who have preordered the game. It has a map I think, besides that there's nothing special. I wish I could have gotten one of those after preordering.
But too bad, I guess.

Ahhh... I see. So, if you pre-order in the states you get a free map and CD whereas in Europe you have to pay an extra £20 for the map, CD and some crappy toy?

Thanks for the fair deal, Sega. :furious3:

how do I know where the settlements are?

You will just have to explore around with your spys, diplmats, armies, etc...Just like they probably did in the late 11th and 12th century anyways (well I am sure they had some really crude maps)

Just kidding by the way...it would be nice if Sega had included a map with the game even if it was just an electronic version...

Wishazu
11-10-2006, 21:39
The map is in the collectors edition lol

Ciddler
11-10-2006, 21:49
I got the collector's edition in Germany. It contains:

The soundtrack and also a remix from the BAFTA-Award winner Jeff Van Dyke
A seperatedly packed latincon figure based on an ingame model specially made for this edition
A special edition of the Medieval II: Total War manual
An exclusive look behind the scene of the development of the game
A print of the entire map
5 Collector cards
And a detailed technology tree in poster-size

Time to play! :)

EB Games in the deserts of Tucson AZ receives for distribution on the 13 (how auspicious) for distribution on the 14th. I will be waiting at the door to get mine with a map.

For those who wish to complain that the 'colonials' got a version with a map, it might occur to some that in the light of recent history it would appear we simply need one more than you do...

The limited edition's not bad: A map, a printed tech tree, two DVDs carrying the History Channel show "The Crusades" and a soundtrack. Not bad at all.

I just got the Limited addition a couple minutes ago. None the less while reading this topic, I think its good luck. The things a beast, you could really cause some damage with this thing.

But I bought it essentially because I hoped there was also a non-localized version of the game in it. No avail. Crap. Just wasted my money :-/

The Collector's Edition is worse, and you have to pay extra for it. And it's not available in the US, I don't think.

Alexander the Pretty Good
11-14-2006, 22:28
CE is worse? I was actually disappointed it isn't offered in the US and I'd have to pay another $10 to have it shipped over here.

Sounds like I should be looking for the LE...

IMO, anyway. You don't get the DVDs, instead you get a small metal figure and some art cards. Not really a good trade off, in my book. I got it for 35 quid online, so I wasn't too bothered, but I wouldn't pay the retail price of 45 for it. I just wanted the map and the tech-tree.

Recieved Limited Edition this morning at 11:30(US)

Game on 2 DVD-Rom
1 Map
1 building/unit tech tree chart (looks like the islamic factions had nothing listed on it, just glanced at it.
1 soundtrack to the game

And since i preorderd via gamestop, 2 DVD's from the history channel on the Crusades.

1 building/unit tech tree chart (looks like the islamic factions had nothing listed on it, just glanced at it.

I did not notice any Orthodox or Islamic churches either. Though it did include a couple of non-catholic unique buildings. The Unit and Building Foldout seems almost exclusively focused on the starting catholic factions. Hope this is not a sign that CA short changed my beloved Byzantines.

One thing that bugs me is that there is no track listing for the soundtrack. Nothing in the Limited Edition box and if you throw it in a PC it doesn't detect them either.

Wait let me get this straight, the LIMITED edition is NOT available in the United States?! I don't know about a "COLLECTOR'S" edition, I only heard what the gamestop guy said, which is "limited edition." Someone tell me what is happening.

Normal Edition in The Netherlands = € 50,--
Collectors' Edition = € 60,--

I pre-ordered the NE at my local Gameshop. When I was there an employee showed me the CE and told me all his CE's were in reservation. I managed to convince him those people would be happy with the NE anyway and so he sold me the CE :2thumbsup:

I guess one TW fan is pretty pissed of now!

Listen to the mod guy.

You can blame consoles apparently, and their big boxes. The US stores wanted to have more shelf space for the upcoming releases, and the CE box for M2TW is big apparently.

Huh. Yesterday, I walked into a Best Buy here in Minneapolis and picked up the limited edition with the DVD's about the crusades, map and tech tree. I also thought it would only be available at Gamestop or EBgames (which, oddly, don't carry PC games in my neck o' the woods). The DVD's were definitely a bonus; I had wanted to see that doc when it aired.

I just got back from Gamestop, and noticed that all they had was the "Limited Edition."

Got the 2DVD game, the soundtrack, the history channel show (which I am incredibly eager to watch, but not so much as to play the game), and the map and tech tree.

I really can't complain, considering it didn't cost me any extra this way. And to think I almost bought it off Steam this morning. *shrugs*

I got it too, coolest thing is the History Channel documentry DVD included with it! I saw it a while back on the History channel and it was awesome documentry on the Crusades. By itself if you ordered it from the History channel it would be like 20 or 30 bucks.

Got the limited edition, though it's no great shakes. The Unit and Building tree is full of incorrect data (as the ReadMe observes, but unhelpfully neglects to correct), and the map....the map doesn't show any cities! In what way is this supposed to be useful?:??

Greetings!
You can blame consoles apparently, and their big boxes. The US stores wanted to have more shelf space for the upcoming releases, and the CE box for M2TW is big apparently.Yep. Blame the stores.

The Collectors Edition is more or less the size of two 1 litre packages of milk. Or half the size of a shoe box.

There is no point in buying the vanilla edition if the Collectors Edition is just 10€ more.

And the map does show the cities. Look closely.

I got my limited edition, I actually quite like it. The History Channel DVD is awesome, Im watching it even as I write this message. The map and unit list thing are handy, even if the unit list is apparently somewhat innacurate, and doesnt list the Muslim/Orthodox faction units structures, except for the unique buildings.
I liked the soundtrack to ;)

Odd I am pretty sure that it said limited edition. Is everyone from Best Buy getting the foldouts too?

Yes. Unfortunately EB games and Gamestop have a stick up their ass here in Phoenix and don't sell PC games, so I had to goto Best Buy and deal with the Play Station 3 lines. On top of it there was a mix up and I never got my $10 gift card, bastards! :wall:

As for the Limited edition, it was all they had, didn't even see the sticker on it until I got home, purchased for about $49.99 so that translates into about £26 I think. You english boys are getting ripped off big time. The DVD's are from the history channel, which I love anyway, and just so happen to be about the famous Crusade's series which aired about 3 or 4 months ago but I never got to watch. So it was great, very happy with my game and all the nice features I got with it ~:thumb:

I bought mine at a Best Buy (in Wisconsin, USA) and got the map and tech tree, as well as the soundtrack, but no History Channel DVDs. Arg. I would have liked those. I did get the $10 gift card, so it was okay. I almost went right back in, returned the game, and then bought it using the gift card. But then I decided I wanted to get home and play it, and that would waste time...

Canada

I stopped by Futureshop a few days after it went gold to see if they had the game. They didn't so I asked the representative and he went into a bin and took it out so it was fresh, plus, he said it was on sale for $50.

I went to the cashier and she told me it was slashed again (Just now, the computer just updated it at the very last minute) to $45, so it was a $15 reduction in price. Afterwards, I realized that I had just bought myself the limited edition.

Soundtrack which is decent, plus the building guide and the map so it was a good deal in my opinion.

Not sure how many canadians got lucky.
