Firefox 2.0 the verdict so far...

I was wondering how people are finding this so far. As for me I've uninstalled and gone back to 1.5.0.8 in Windows XP and 98SE and 1.5.0.7 in Linux. (My distro, Kubuntu, is not yet up to 1.5.0.8). Basically it crashes, on all platforms, ALOT. I was posting here and it crashed, I was trying to download the XL Mod for MTW and it crashed. It's crashed doing other things as well. Mostly in XP, but also in Win98SE and sometimes in Linux. I've never seen so much of the quality feedback agent!

Guess you must have got a dodgy copy, not had 1 crash in 2.0 yet and only had Firefox crash on me twice the whole time ive been using it. Your the only person ive heard complain about 2.0

I like the new look and feel of 2.0, cant get the spell checker to work though :(

FF2 crashes extremely infrequently for me - maybe three times since its release and I've used it constantly.

Those three times it crashed, I just restored it using the handy-dandy "restore to before crash" feature.

Essentially FF2 is like the opposite of full scale chemical warfare - that is to say, quite good. :medievalcheers:

Firefox 2.0 being a new major version is likely to crash occasionally, moreso than Firefox 1.5.0.8 but personally I'm finding it to be pretty unstable. As to the dodgy copy theory. I find it unlikely that I could download 6 dodgy copies. So far I've installed two at work, crashing, and four 2 at home. Of the two at work, one has crashed regularly, the other has only crashed once. Of those at home, the Linux build seems to be the most reliable, it crashes in windows 98 and also crashes on my other machine under WinXP. I also have it on a Laptop running Windows 2000 where it also crashes occasionally. Needs patching.

-Edit: If totalwar.com isn't working, Flashplayer is likely to be your problem. I can't access totalwar.com from Linux due to Flashplayer not being as up to date for that OS.

I've heard of that as well, though I haven't had that problem. Temporary files and cookies have also been incompatible in the past (easily solved by clearing the lot out before updating). 1.5 will be supported until 24 April 2007. So there's time to see how stable v2.0 gets. Bookmarks are not really much of a issue though, as you can export them first then re-import them once you've upgraded, which should avoid the problem/bug.

2.0 doesn't crash, has a nifty spellchecker, an 'x' for closing tabs, and loads faster. Wheee!

This the crash error that I get from Firefox on Win98SE. It has continued from 2.0 to 2.0.0.1. I also get a few crashes at home on 98SE and on WinXP though not so often. It occurs when firefox is loading a page, when several windows are open at once. In this case it was only the .org and ebay uk that I had open.

MSVCRT is the MS Visual C Runtime library. I discovered that the Java runtime environment has an older version of this file in it's bin folder, so I replaced this with the one from windows\system. Now I'll have to see how it goes.

I must admit that I have only had one crash with firefox and that was when I tried to access vBRadio on this site. However, I have had several crashes that could be related to Firefox. For example when I come out of Hibernate, if Firefox is open, my mouse pointer refuses to move. Other than that, though, I have had an extremely pleasurable browsing experience with the wonderful firefox and all it's add ons such as ad-block and spell checker. As a certain userbar said: Bring back the fun to the web, get firefox! Cheers.

I have Firefox 2.0 but don't use it...
I really like the new IE7. It hardly crashes and is faster than FF (to my eye). Hence it is my everyday browser.
I have Opera too but only use these non microsoft browsers for testing purposes.

But then again... I am a Microsoft certified partner and must say that genuine software works. (not insinuating anything here)

I have Firefox 2.0 and I prefer it to 1.5. No stability problems so far.

Oh, one word of wisdom, all Firefox users should download the latest version of Java ( http://www.java.com ). My previous relationship with Firefox was one of love/hate as certain Java and Flash animation heavy sites would make Firefox choke and run like crap, a stark contrast to IE which ran those same sites like a champ. On a whim I installed the latest version of Java and pow, Firefox runs much more smoothly now. :2thumbsup:

Great! An I don't have Linux installed on any machine at the moment. I'm lacking HDD space for total war games, so it had to come off. I'm using an old HDD at the moment (27.3GB) with Win98SE, as my old one died some time ago. I've just never got around to getting a new one. :shame:

Again I'm having the same crash after updating Java, though only on this machine. The crash on my machine at home was a different one and hasn't reappeared since updating Firefox to 2.0.0.1. I think this machine is a bit dodgy. It's an old Dell I use at work for testing printers with Win98SE on it.

After month of usage -

1) Firefox 2.0 without plug-ins is not good.
2) Must-have plug-ins slow down Firefox when it loads. :thumbsdown:
3) With plug-ins really great!

I mean it is needed ~6-8 sec to load it. Slow but after that works excellent. My PC came from upgrade two weeks ago and works faster than ever, but my friend installed a lot of various plug-ins.
