Could somebody tell me whether its possible to buy Rome plus Barbarian Invasions and Alexander together? I'm a bit confused whether Alexander is only available seperately or online.

I notice Rome Gold Edition doesn't include it, but a friend said there's a bundle available.

Your friend probably refered to the "Total War Eras" edition. This includes S:TW, M:TW1 and R:TW plus all the expansions.

Do you happen to know the Shogun and Medieval in Eras are the original versions or whether CA's tweaked them for running in XP, etc?

Not sure, but I doubt the code has been changed much.

I think they have (original Shogun didn't work on XP). However, as Ludens has pointed out, the game is not changed in any way by this.
