View Full Version : Upgrading BIOS
I'm trying to build a new notebook. I'm looking at the ASUS S96J.
The original barebone was designed for Core Duo. However, there's a new bios that allows for Core Duo2.
I can find the S96J with the original bios for $600. or one with the new bios for $750.
Is there a way for me to flash my bios without a CPU? or should i go ahead and spend $150 extra?

I can't guarantee anything, but an unsupported CPU should still function though possibly not running at the correct speed (slower). There is no way, for the end user anyway, to flash a BIOS without actually installing a CPU and memory, and booting the system first. You could do with finding out for sure if the system will boot at all with that CPU installed.
Huh? Core Duo and Core 2 Duo, whats the difference? What is my E6600 then?

It's a Core 2 Duo, relax. ~:)
Core Duos were those that AMD Dual Cores had pwnt when they were out. Now that your cute monster E6600 can pwn even an AMD Fx-62. :2thumbsup:
