Ave generals!

I was uding some sappers lately and I found them very effective and quick for destroing walls..
But I was wondering how would i defend myself if the opponent would use it against my walls ?
Would I need to sally fort  or just burn them with firearrows? Do my archers have such range/is it possible at all? - they start digging quite far..

I must be prepared for the Brutii started to besiege me.. :beam:
I`m now the faraon :egypt:

Use archers on the walls and get them to set their arrows alight and rain fire upon the sap point. If you don't have archers deploy your infantry by the side gate (the one that the enemy isn't attacking. Send them out round the side and destroy the sap point.

Note that it MUST be infantry. Cavalry don't seem to do any damage to sap points.

ah thanks, so they can be set on fire, from the walls..
I gues is it possible to ignite the towers same way.

It sure is. Archers and wall towers can light up siege towers big time.

Yes, but it depends on what sort of tower. The tower that attacks a stone wall/a large stone wall can be set on fire. However a tower that attacks an Epic Stone wall cannot be burned to the ground and can only be destroyed by non-missile infantryunits from below and from the Epic Stone towers of the Epic Stone wall.

That is a great idea about sending infantry out to destroy the sap point.

I agree that Cavalry don't do much to the sap point itself, but (and I could be mistaken here) if they can get their blades into the sappers before they are all underground, it seems that they manage to cut the stuffings out of them, causing them to retreat. It might be worth trying.

It is good to note (and I may be wrong in stating) that if a sap point is destroyed then the poor unit "underground" sapping it little heart out is also destroyed.

I must confess that I have not attacked a sap point but I have read it at the .org :book:

but i think it is quite risky to send out infantry when the mass of the enemy is outside, or no? still i gues it´s safer than wait until the wall falls

yesterday i was attacked by a siegetower and some laddermen.. against the first level stone wall.. i had two bowman untis o the walls + some samnian mercs.
I managed to shoot down the first laddermen group, th second climbed up but were defeated by the mercs.
with the other bowmen i tried to shoot down the s.tower with fire arrows, but they seemed to fire past it - the tower was coming in an angle, not directly so maybe thats why it had 0 damage from arrows.
But behind my walls stood a unit of onagers which managed to shoot down the tower just when it was about to open. it was pretty awesome.. and the whole greek unit died inside. onagers hit my own walls twice but i wasn´t angry with them after all hehe :2thumbsup:

alas they didn´tuse the sappers so i couldn´t try out this..
