So far in my tests I have come to the conclusion that the Danes and the Turks have the two rowdiest infantry units.

The danish Obudshaers from my tests eat every other european foot infantry for lunch. They can be charged by all the units listed, suffer 20% casualties in the initial clash and then still win maintaining 30-55% strength.

The Heavy Jannisary are slightly superior to the Obudshaers.

Cost wise the Obudshaer is 720 Florins on the largest unit size.

Heavy Janns run 840 if I am not mistaken, so cost wise they are pretty much equals.

The Obudshaer on the other hand can form the spearwall with decimates frontal cavalry charges of any sort.

Tests I have run so far.

Obudshaer vs Dismounted Fuedal/Chivalric/Tuetonic Knights/Norman Knights
Obudshaer vs Scottish Noble Pikes
Obudshaer vs Highland Nobles

Statistically these were the most impressive units avaliable. I don't believe any other Catholic Nations have a unit that is on par with the Obudshaer but I could be mistaken, I know several nations have militias that are similiar in function.

Truthfully, I was rather shocked. They have lackluster statistics, and it wasnt untill I actually got a few in my Danish campaign that I saw the two handed chop of doom :smash: They literally just wack-a-mole their way to victory, in VERY impressive fashion.

Add Varangian Guard to the units Heavy Jannisary and Obudshaer decimate.

The interesting thing in these tests is the initial clash. The Janns and Obuds take a BAD beating, dropping from 120 to ~90 men instantly. They then just slowly chop their way back into the fray and start to quickly dominate.

Testing French Lancers against the Obudshaers is rather interesting.

The Cavalry inflicts heavy damage ~35-40% on contact but at the same time suffer 25% casualties. Then not much happens, neither unit takes much in the way of casualties until the Obudshaers break at 60% strength. I've run that particular test 10x now. Each test the French general dies instantly yet the Obuds still break first. Very interesting and somewhat unexpected.

have you done any teston pike militia?

they chopped dismounted knights into small pieces, and yet they have pretty low stats.

In my HRE campaingn I came across the Danes and was surprised by their good units. They have good cav two. Tough enemy they are - little Viking succesors.

I ran them against Scottish Noble Pikemen which seem to have the highest stats of any pike unit. They chewed them up incredibly fast.

If you are referring to Pikes versus Cavalry, no I have not run any tests on those yet. I would guess that Pikes suffer the same problems that spear wall units face. Namely that while they inflict severe casualties at the moment of impact, they suffer more than they inflict and as such take a terrible morale hit and break shortly afterwards.

On another note, while playing around with the Obudshaers versus French Lancers, I was able to reliably beat the Lancers 1v1 with the Obuds but it took SIGNIFICANT micromanagements. Essentially I had to reform the Obuds into a formation with 5+ ranks. Set them to spear wall, recieve the charge in spear wall and then turn it off. Duke it out with the knights untill they break off to charge again. Reform the formation, and try to hussle them into the spear wall again.

Generally speaking the knights will break off and recharge 3 or 4 times. Against 80 Lancers, 120 Obudshaers would win about 75% of the time with 10 to 20 men left. If they lost, as a rule it seemed to be because I was unable to quickly get them back into spear wall to recieve the charge.

You will also probably be thinking to yourself this is simply not a realistic thing to achieve when you have a massive battle raging. I completely agree ;p
