Write a story, minimum 500 words (490 is acceptable, 500 is a close benchmark) .
Include in this the sentence "I injured him with a spoon and two rubber bands" and
begin the story with "I hate the neighbor's cat"
Try it, and see what you get.
'I hate the neighbour's cat,' muttered my grandmother. It was a solitary existence at home, nothing much happened. Traffic accident took both my parents, and so my grandmother brought me up. I wouldn't dare refer to her as “gran” or “grandma”. Most grandmothers don't answer an endearing term with a clip round the ear. There was one night when I went into the kitchen and she threw a bloody saucepan at me.
'I am sick and tired of your antics, young man, creeping up on your granny like that!' she began this night, 'Antics, grandmother?'
'And don't use that tone with me. I know what you've been doing!'
'That's lucky, because I haven't the faintest.' I really didn't. I was always well-behaved. Grandmother was too scary to be badly behaved around. 'So, grandmother, how's the cooking going?'
'Whoever asked you? Bugger off.' I stood around for a moment. 'Now.' I padded halfway up the stairs, just out of sight, and listened. 'Thinks he knows everything. Thinks he knows better than his old gran!' This drivel was something I had to put up with all the time. I don't know how I didn't go mad. She spent a few more hours by the stove, constantly shuffling. I didn't have anything else to do. I never did. She wouldn't get me anything to do. Wouldn't let me out of the house, for fear that I'd go wild! And drink! After a while, I heard the door open, and then shut. I carefully crept down the stairs and peeked. It wasn't just one of her tricks to catch me out “being wicked again”. She really had left the house. She never left the house!
I ran down the stairs and grabbed the handle. It was wet. I twisted it once but the door was locked, so I pulled my hand away. She'd taken the keys, probably. Mad old bat. I went back upstairs, and sat on my bed for a while. I heard the door opening again downstairs, and went down casually. Grandmother was sitting on a stool, 'Go back upstairs.' And after a moment's thought she added, 'and take those hands out of your pockets, it's unseemly!' I pulled my right hand up, and it was stuck. 'HA!' Grandmother shouted triumphantly. 'Caught in the act! Caught in the act! No pocket money for a week!' I can't remember the last time I actually had pocket money. She always finds some excuse not to give it out. I looked closer.
'Grandmother, are you holding a knife?'
'And why shouldn't I?' she protested loudly.
'Holding knives is dangerous, you said so yourself.'
'Dangerous for you! Shoo!'
I hastily retreated back upstairs. The only thing that brought me back down was the vague 'meow' from the kitchen. Grandmother looked around frantically as I entered. 'Grandmother, have you brought a cat in?'
'No!' She protested, 'It got in when I was opening the door.'
'So why did you go out.'
'None of your business, go back upstairs.'
The cat limped out from under the table and came to me, pleadingly.
'Gran, did you hurt it?'
'Hurt him? He's perfectly well.'
'So what about the blood coming from this leg?'
'He did it to himself!'
'Did you injure him with that knife?'
'I injured him with a spoon and two rubber bands. Now give him here and go back upstairs.'
'Grandmother, you can't just do this.'
'Don't lecture me, you don't know anything! I don't know why I don't turn your ungrateful arse out onto the street.' The cat rubbed itself against me. I slowly opened the door. At least grandmother hadn't locked it again. Must have been too busy with the cat. I brought the cat back to Mr. Armeli 'So sorry', 'you know gran', 'she can't help it'. Got back home and the door was locked. The shouting came from the other side, 'I hate the neighbour's cat!'
Just another day in my life.
