View Full Version : Special Items (eg Sword of Mohammed)

In my turkish campaign one of my faction heirs had a "sword of mohammed". In his retinue, picture of a sword etc. etc. which gave it's bearer +1 piety and +2 command, it passes between leaders unlike any of the retinue members that are people.
Thought that was kind of cool, and something i havent' noticed from playing any other factions (spainish/scottish) anyone else found any more items like it?

Assasians can get better blades, as well as Princesses can.
Thats all I know of.
My Assassin also got a Better Blade and Explosives, had full skill and was wreaking havoc among the Holy Roman Empire capital. Blowing up buildings (I can never get tired of that wmv), assassinating diplomatics, princesses, generals, and anything else in reach. However, he felt his demise when a prince opened a door in such a furious rage, that the assassin hiding behind had his skull crushed in. Such a shame.
But that item certainly sounds awesome! Albeit it, while I think the boosts maybe should be a bit bigger, I think its incredibly neat that you can attain the Sword of Muhammad and lead Islam to victory.
Hrm... I wonder if there's a Spear of Nazareth...
My general got a Spear of destiny after completing a crusade (in Antioch!, maybe its just a coincidence)...It says that its a legendary item and that the one who ownes it will rule the word but if he losses it, then he'll die. Must try if that's true:laugh4: )

That my friend, is the Spear of Nazareth! The very spear that punctured the flesh of Christ, and was forever blessed! Thats really cool! (Also, the Spear -WAS- recovered in a cave in Antioch during a Crusade!) Wow, this is a pretty neat little feature. Don't lose that thing now :laugh4:

Yeah, I know that:smash: . That's why I wrote it was sort of funny when I got it after completing a crusade in Antioch.

talking about special stuff.. yesterday I had a cool future
I was slaying hungary when all of a sudden the SON of their king said to me:
"Kill my father. He is an infidel who doesnt know how to rule this country. Kill him and we will fight side by side forever."
Well something along that lines. Thats a super cool future :D

My Egyptian sultan got Muhammeds "holy mantle" with a piety of +2. But that is the only special item I have seen so far. Since the sultan is old I have already given it away to a younger general.

Strange how it was found by the crusade's leaders just when the crusade was besieged and hitting rock bottom morale. Hmm....

I found the Holy Chalice after conquering Jerusalem. Only gives +1 piety though, kinda weak for such a legendary item :P
legendary items are somehow too weak IMHO. Also it would be great if, once found and then lost (say you didn't transfer them) they could randomly appear some time later in any province on the map.
As for the SOD...As I know it wasn't found in the cave but in the church floor of the Antioch's cathedral. It was excavated by Peter the Bartholomew (spelling) who had a vision that it was there. He later went under ordeal by fire to prove himself but died some days later after being badly burnt. It is true, though, that significant portoin of crusading army believed that the object he demonstrated was indeed the SOD (actually it was probably the head of roman standard) so morale went up and they were able to repel Muslims beseiging the city...
I think it is pretty ok as it is now, I mean the effects of the items. After all, the game is mostly trying for realism.
However, I think that overall having transferrable special items makes the game a lot more versatile for modding. Arthurian mod can have Excalibur, giving a lot of boost to a generals hp valor etc.
Also, some fantasy mods might have enchanted items that are not necessary even unique.

Yeah, the same thing happened to me. I was a little surprised to only get +1 piety after recovering the holy grail! Still, I think they're a nice touch

Interesting story, I hadn't heard about that Spear of Destiny thing.
We have/had the same thing going in France with Joan of Arc (who else ? :) ). According to legend, during her travels at the head of her army she had a vision of a church and its altar. The church itself was insignificant if I remember clearly (small no-name village church, not say the Cathedral of Chartres), but they say that behind the altar she removed a paving slab and found a rusty sword. When she took it in her hands, the rust vanished. I can't remember whose sword it was supposed to be though.
Of course everyone deemed it a miracle, morale soared, the english were routed afterwards etc...
I've always wondered if it was an elaborate plot on the part of Joan :
- "oh, look, a church, let's go pray ! *shuffle shuffle* Guys ! I found a miraculous sword, isn't it neat ?!"
- "You planted that !"
- "Nu-uh !"
, or an "urban legend" dating from way back that was being retold.
And of course, there's the matter of the pieces of the True Cross, which were so numerous in Christendom the Cross must have been the size of a boat ;)

For some reason the assassins I train in Constantinople after building the gunpowder building have Prototype Pistol. IIRC it gives a +1 to skill and +2 to order helping keep whatever city they are in peaceful.
Pretty odd but since they have not been much use in other ways its a nice plus.

The sword was Charlemagne's, the "Father of France" - which was why it was so astounding that she found it.

Yeah, I know that:smash: . That's why I wrote it was sort of funny when I got it after completing a crusade in Antioch.
IIRC when reading the first crusade forget the author the spear ( or a piece of metal dug up from a cathedral) was recovered during the seige of antioch. IIRC the leder of the peoples crusade (was it peter??) had a dream where the location was revealed to him. it was after this discovery that the christian army sallied out of the fort and defeated the muslim army beseiging them. so the game was correct as far i know cool! if i got my facts wrong my apologies. all the pots giving me a real bad memory
can we transfer relics between generals? are the limit of retinues and items per each character still 8? Relics such as tooth, cross, spear, sword are transferrable? I know human attachments (retinues) cannot be transferred now. What about physical objects such as relics, weapons, items and such? all of you who own relics, can you try and tell me?
I'd like to know that too, actually

Playing on M/M (yeah, yeah) for my first game as England. After suffering unduly right off the bat at the hands of NPC Inquisitors burninating nearly all my Princes I decided to *make the Pope happy* above all else.
Well, gunpowder just hit and by now there is an English Pope and I've got a huge amount of Cardinals in the College. Only problem is the Pope and a good half of my Cardinals are secretly women! If this gets out there could be trouble...

The sword was Charlemagne's, the "Father of France" - which was why it was so astounding that she found it.
Makes sense. In my head it was a toss-up between Charlemagne's, Roland's (Charlemagne's best and most trusted knight) or Charles Martel's, all three men powerful symbols regarding what Joan was struggling to achieve - unification of the French provinces and their petty thinking into a collective "France" unity, a patriotic spirit, the concept of a nation...
Which makes it even more suspicious considering that SoD story - both leaders miraculously finding the precise item embodying the very cause and fervour they were trying to instill in their men... in places placing emphasis on their own faith/culture as opposed to that of their foes... Call me Mr. Skeptical Paranoid, but I smell propaganda :stupido2:
But then again, maybe both legends are merely early examples of retconning and revisionism - maybe none of that nonsense really happened, but later biased historians included them in their chronicles to make events appear as though they were meant to be, Dieu le veult, instead of them owing to the virtue of individuals...
Ah, well :focus:
so if u have something like the sword of mohammed .can u pass it down to one of your sons?if so how ?

Just confirming that the "Sword of Mohammed" does pass between family members. Same as in RTW just drag and drop the icon from one retinue to the other.
ps:- as someone else said, can't wait for some mods to come out using this feature. Artificact mod pak download anyone...?

If I remember correctly, at Hattin, Saladin had a piece of the true cross to inspire his Christian (Many Armenians, yay!) mercenaries and to demoralize his also Christian foes. Very smart win/win situation.

What actually happened was that when the Crusaders marched, they brought pieces of the True Cross with them. When the battle began to go against the Crusaders it was placed in Guy de Lusignon's tent as a kind of last-ditch rallying point. As we all know, though, the Crusader army was utterly destroyed and THEN Saladin recovered the Cross.
To God's Grace: -shrug- If he is, then my bad I guess - medieval history isn't my forte. Point of the story still stands though.

So how many djinns and effrits can you summon per turn with it? :jester:
Seal of Solomon - +1 Dread, -1 Piety, +2 Command when commanding cavalry. Got it when I finished a crusade to Jerusalem.
Gerard de Ridefort - Ancillery that joined me when I declared my Crusade to Jerusalem. +1 Command, +1 Authority, +1 Morale to all troops, +2 Command when attacking.
Needless to say, that ended up being one great general. He was a 3 star 19-year old when he joined the crusade. Was a 9 star when attacking by time he took Jerusalem. He basically took the middle east himself.
I had Peter the Hermit join Sultan Salih on his jihad against Edessa.

Is it possible that I am the only one who laughed to tears with the "little trinket" ~:joker: ? It must be the most hilarious special item in the game :cheerleader: . It fits with the superstition of the time where tons of Holy Bones and True Cross were "on the market". By the way, it still happens at a lesser scale...

In my campaign as the Moors, too, General Quasim got Peter the Hermit on a Jihad for Leon ~
Except that it's been proven now that the spear was manufactured during the Middle Ages, and isn't what it was claimed to be.
All the Mohammed's items are transferrable btw.
In my current game I can't find Mohammed's sword. Is there a specific location for it or are all the items randomised ?
One of my princesses has a chastity belt (-1 to charm and -10% movement points "ya think"). Later she picked up a secret lover (how'd that happen?)...guess she figured out how to pick the lock on the chastity belt! Now all she needs is a catamite and voila...the TRIFECTA!!!!!!!!!

Obviously part of the bugged Traits and Ancilliaries... He should of course have been issued to a general.
Did his MP bonus at least show up for this priest? And did you try to 'hand' him over to a general?
Good question Sir Kraxis.
About that not so chasity babe, oh my freakin goat !!!
Secret lover and chastity belt.. LMAO.
my brother got a "veronica's cloth" (the thing with the painted facial image of christ) or something after completing a crusade using france. gerard (the knight templar) appears when you join the crusade, ive played england twice and he always joins my retinue.
I've had a spy get "Forged Papers" that gave +1 to his skill which I could transfer.

Good news. :2thumbsup:
He can??? Damn...
Anyway it is rather easy to get. Just let your spy stay in an enemy city long enough and he will get it.
I tried to transfer a bunch of forged papers from veterans to newbies, did'nt work. So I went looking into the files and found this:
Ancillary false_documents
Type Item
Transferable 0
Image item_documents.tga
ExcludeCultures mesoamerican
Description false_documents_desc
EffectsDescription false_documents_effects_desc
Effect Subterfuge 1
So if this is the correct item it is not transferrable or else it would have 1 instead of 0.
It is the correct item right ? I can't find any 'forged papers' in the ancillary file.

Hmm standard of Mohammed ? The black one I assume ? That would be very cool if the general who had it, had it on the field. That is when you went to battle with that general, he would have that standard. Ultimate.

I see all of them there except Leonardo.
Great work Dismal on that ancillary list. It's the most complete I've seen so far. Is it a totally complete list? Any chance you have a similar list of traits laying around?
Having had a look at the files myself, one thing to remember with the named characters is that they can be ferociously difficult to get. Mainly because they are only available to a single specific faction and only between certain turns.
Also you sometimes have to have just fought a battle against a specific faction.
The turns limitations can be nasty. For example both William Wallace and Joan of Arc give you just 8 turns in which to acquire them, and you need to be fighting England with battle odds of less than 1.
Naturally the less powerful ones are easier to get.

I extracted them from the export_descr_ancillaries.txt file, so that should be all of 'em.
There are over 1000 VnVs so I'm a little hesitant to post the list.

Wouldn't it be great if it worked like Diablo 2.
For example, complete the set of Mohammed for extra bonuses. Or maybe a holy relic set for those budding Christian Kings.
You could even add trading to the mix! Just picture the King of France trading his Sword of Mohammed for a Sultans Holy Grail (since you always get the items you can't use and all that..)
(And on a slightly more serious note, "adultress_she_man"? I'll have to keep an eye out for that one)

For any D2 nuts out there, I think this would make a nice set.
Complete set Jesus' Garb :
Crown Of Thorns - +1 all miracle skills
Holy Sandals - movement points +10%, resistance to sand +30
Beard Of Preaching - Increased loyalty, 50% chance to cast conversion
Loincloth Of The Trinity - +3 when defending peacefully, +3 all attributes
Complete set bonus - 100% chance to die against Romans, 100% chance religion find, 100% chance of inspiring a hilarious Monty Python film.
Why not create your own inspiring look for this garb here http://www.jesusdressup.com/#
Most relics are obtained when your general conquers a specific city. 10% chance normally, 30% if the fellow is on crusade or jihad. 60% chance of it passing down to his son, 30% chance of prying it from his cold, dead hands if you kill him in battle.
I started a Egypt campaign and during one of my Ebil Jihads I got Mohammrds Hair :)
