Best ever win? How about 433 to 1079 and won!

Haven't been getting much sleep recently, playing Medieval 2 to the wee hours. Anyway having conquered most of France as England I suddenly got attacked on 3 sides by the Portuguese, Milanese and Danish. Did an "Auto-resolve" on the 1st 2 cos I was feeling lazy and wasn't going to lose.

Now the Danish were a different matter, they'd besieged Hamburg and I had 433 men to their 1079. "What the hell", I figured, "It'll be a laugh seeing how of theirs I can take out before I lose valiantly".

Stuck 2 ranks of spearmen and 2 archers on the walls, then 3 ranks of armoured knights at the gate. They came at me with a battering ram and a siege tower and 1 ladder. Tried to burn out the ram and tower with flaming arrows to no avail, they broke through the gate.

Then my heroic armoured knights came to the fore, they stopped 3 ranks of peasant milita, 2 ranks of heavy cavalry and finally 1 rank of cleric? heavy cavalry. The spearmen meantime had taken care of a few ranks of militia on the walls, then gathered at the gate edges to help mop up. At the end I had 20-odd archers, 20-odd spearmen and 2 knights who now have 3 ranks each.

Took out 896 Danish for 342 of my men. Nice! :laugh4:

After breaking the gate, the AI tends to send a massive blob of troops through the gate - if intercepted this results in horrific casualties for the AI due to crowding / moving penalties. I had this occur more than twice.

It was not a victory but it's one of the bigger battles I've yet to have. And my first battle against the Mongols. Both armies consisted almost entirely of cavalry (I had no foot soldiers, though the mongols had some archers) and my army was almost entirely made up of experienced mongols... pity I lost, though I did kill many of them...

I was besieging when the byz sallied with the 1173 strong relieve force appearing behind my back. so i had my archers turn around anticipating their force and used my ha's to quicky shoot some of the sallying units and then using hit and run tactics as quickly as possible and managed to rout that army before the reinforcements reached me. Totaly annihilated the attacking force too, because tha ai can't seem to cope with ha's very well, not responding or way too late when i send them behind his army to shoot them in the back.
Still pretty impressive imho.

I had another huge victory with france against the spanish, 8 cavalry, some dismounted knights and armoured spearmen and 6 corssbow milita against 2 full stacks consisting of jinettes, crossbows and swords and buckler men. I was on the defence and on a slight hill, managed to kill all 2k soldiers and had only lost 300 men, most of the losses were the cavalry (those jinettes are quite good in melee), didn't take a screenie tho.

I as the sicilians had taken paris. the english then laid seige to me there with a fiul stack, including about 12 unitis of nights. i had about six units defending. i opended the gate and they repeatedly charged the spearmen standing in the doorway with their knights who were slaughtered and kept on routing and then recharging. i positioned my general behind them the english to block their exit and wipe up routers and ended up slaugtering their entire army.

I had a bridge battle the other day, my c.580 against their 1000. I walked away with 530, two of them escaped. Oh it was fun.

Since they rejected the ransom after that, that's a total of 3139 brits rotting in their graves. Danish axemen really are horrifyingly effective against English spearmen.
