Hey all, just remembered something that's puzzling me in my current (and first) England (H/H) campaign.
Every turn (or if not every turn, then every two turns at least) I'm getting a "Candidate for Adoption" message, always from my faction leader/heir. Now, I'm pretty sure that the candidate adoption is only supposed to happen maybe once or twice every generation (excluding the "Man of the Hour" adoption candidates), rather than every single turn. It's not game-breaking by any means as it's very easy to decline the offer, but it does tend to take away from the atmosphere somewhat to have to deal with these constant messages. I'll take some screenshots when I'm next playing to show you what's happening. But I was just wondering, is this an isolated problem? Is anyone else having this problem?
I'll also play a few turns into a new campaign and see if it happens there too, as it may be a one-of (in campaign terms).

If you accept one (go for younger ones) the messages should stop. This happened to me in RTW, but I haven't played M2TW yet.

I think getting the opportunity to adopt generals and promoting "men of the hour" is related to the amount of active family members you have running around... they seems to come more often if you have lots of your generals die in a short timespan. I recently started up a moorish campaign and had everyone except my sultan and his son killed... the adoption messages came pouring in soon after that. It's been a long time since I played Rome, but I seem to recall the same thing there. I think it's the game being forgiving on you, so you don't get wiped out from having all your family members killed.

I actually never had a game over because all my family members died since Viking invasion

It can happen. As far as I can tell, the game has a guideline, where you should have so many generals who are family members for the number of provinces you hold. If that number drops below the guideline, then you'll get adoption opportunities. I had several at the beginning of my Byzantine campaign. Byzantium starts with 5 provinces and only two males of adult age. I think I had 3 adoptions in the early going.

That might be it all right. I only really had 3 male family members and due to a massive war with the HRE, Denmark and France I managed to take huge swathes of land. Since the 3 men of my family were all around the same age they all had children (male children) at around the same age. So now I've reached a point in the game where all their children are coming of age and the adoption candidates have ceased their petitioning. Thanks anyway folks :)
