I had a fort in a mountain pass under seige by a large Hungarian army. I moved an army of about a 1000 men forward to relieve the fort. I stopped them behind the fort. I wasn't sure how to attack the Hungarian army through my surrounded fort.

During the execution phase, the Hungarians attacked the fort. The fort militia troops were the primary force and my reinforcement army entered as the game started. The 1400 Hungarians with trebulets and catapults rapidly overwhelmed my militia unit as my reinforcements marched from the rear of the battlefield.

Suddenly the battle was over before my reinforcements were even close to the enemy.

Then I discovered I had lost my entire reinforcement army along with the one militia unit in the fort.

Apparantly the fort was surrounded, so there was no retreat allowed. Makes sense for the garrison as they were surrounded. But my relieving army was eliminated as well, even though not surrounded, when the clock expired. My reinforcing army didn't even have the time to reach the fort to dispute the battle.

Ouch...not good. Also the autosave was immediate for the just completed turn. Not sure what good is an autosave of the just completed turn. I need a save and access to the previous turn. And I haven't done a manual save in 4 turns. I either concede the lost of a top class 1000 man army or lose 4 turns of gameplay. 4 turns of gameplay is a fair amount of lost time.

Lesson learned, never park an army behind one of your forts. I hope CA fixes this one. First major problem I have had since the receiving the game.

The time limit ran out? How were your men not able to get into the battle before the time limit ran out, it's like an hour long!
Or do you mean that they took the square?
Either way, that sucks. Depending on what was in the army, I'd reload. You might want to start making it a habit to quicksave at the end of or beginning of your turns, so in the event that something like this happens, you can go back and do something differently. Quicksave is Ctrl+S, and quickload is Ctrl+L

They took the square in the fort. I had x amount of time to recapture the square but didn't realize it.

I got one worse than that. I had finally managed to scrounge up enough money as russia to build a pretty nice army of dismounted Boyars and Dvors, with Druhzina cav for support. I take my best general down to the polish capital, and he suddenly goes rebel despite 6 loyalty and no bad traits or retinue.
