View Full Version : Time acceleration messes up charges

I was doing some tests to verify if loose formation is better for receiving charges (see sticky above). My results tend to indeed point that way, although I need to run more tests.

During the testing process, I discovered a problem with time acceleration. For my tests, I was using 1 unit of french chivalric knights (AI) vs 1 unit of german armored spearmen (player controlled). If time acceleration was disabled, the knights charged just as expected: slow trotting towards me, then speeding up in the last few meters while lowering lances. The same would happen if I had time acceleration always on *for the duration of the charge*, i.e. I would turn it on and leave it on until the fight was over.

HOWEVER, when I turned on time acceleration to speed up the "knights walking" part and then *disabled it just before the charge actually happened*, then the knights would NOT charge. Instead, once they reached the approximate point at which they should start charging, they MESSED UP THEIR FORMATION, then REFORMED, lowered lances and just stood there, staring at my spearmen menacingly.

I tested it over 10 times and it happens EVERY SINGLE TIME, so it should be fairly easy to reproduce. Sometimes they would eventually charge if I turn time acceleration back on and keep it on for a while. Other times, they just stay there regardless.

I also tested it with infantry units (1 unit of dismounted feudal knights for me and 1 for the AI). Sure enough, it happens with infantry as well.

Now I don't know if this is part of the "passive AI" bug, but for now, I've decided to compeltely disable time acceleration for my battles, since it seems to be screwing things up.

Oh and for the record, I have an E6400 with 2G of RAM and an X1900GT/256MB so there shouldn't be an issue with my pc being slow or something affecting the results.

Moral of the story?

Be patient. :P

Wow that's pretty interesting. I loved RTW, but I'm dissapointed in the unit mechanics in M2TW. I look forward to seeing the rest of your tests.
