Is there any way to do this? It gets rather annoying, for obvious reasons.

You mean the in-battle cutscenes like the general's death or busting a door open?
Look for the [game] section in your medieval2.preferences.cfg file and change the following:
event_cutscenes = 1
to
event_cutscenes = 0
Cheers
Those cutscenes can be seriously irritating when you were in the middle of trying to issue an incredibly critical order.

Along the same lines, is there a way to disable the opening and go straight to the game? The -nm hack from RTW doesn't work.

PM me if you want some help. I don't know how to attach pictures in vBulletin.

Look for the [video] section in your medieval2.preferences.cfg file and add the following if it's not already there:
movies = 0

Does disabling movies just cut out opening sequence or any movies? Like I wasnt sure if the end of the campaign has any cut scenes and lol this long campaign is taking forever and dont want to miss that.

Still can't edit my (expletive) posts. No Lochar, it doesn't not disable in-game movies like assassination attempts, etc. It only affects the intro movies when firing up the game.
IMPORTANT ADDENDUM:
After adding the 'movies = 0' comment to your medieval2.preference.cfg file, MAKE IT READ-ONLY! If you do not, M2TW will overwrite the file and it will remove that movies = 0 flag, thus you'll have to add it again every time you want to restart the game. I shall report this in the bugs thread.
Cheers!
