Has anyone seen Gulay Gorod in game ?
It can be found in IGN M2 preview for Russian faction:

Seems that there is an attempt by CA to introduce warwagon warfare in M2, though we don't know if it was successful. Maybe with next patch...

Hm, I have not played my game today, but I have not seen any the last time I checked, which was yesterday. Don't trust me on it though, I've only played Russia once. The closest thing I can think of to some sort of war wagon was the rocket launcher? (I'm thinking AOE II expansion)

It does not appear that this sort of unit is in the game. I think the odds are good that we shall perhaps see it in the expansion.

What the war waggons aren't in the game?

Thats disappointing, considering this unit was in the previews...

They were only mentioned in the previews. What probably happened was that CA gave ign tentative unit lists (as in all the units they wanted to include). When push came to shove though and the deadline approached they probably decided that all the additional coding wasnt worth it for a single unique unit and cut the war wagons.

Its too bad. I was really looking forward to them. Especially from a modding standpoint. A creative modder could really make something cool using the war wagon mechanics.

Not true, war wagons ARE in the game, the venetians had two when i fought against them. I could also construct a cross while I was crusading.

Yes, Milan and Venice can build standards on wagons that boosts your armys morale, and the great cross on crusades functions the same way. They're not the same as the Russian war-wagons, though. I actually thought the Gulay Gorod was a joke and I'm not surprised they're not in the game... I mean, come on, Wild West-style wagon-circles? Doesn't really fit into the whole rock-paper-scissors-thing. I'd be glad to see them in an expansion or a patch, though.

These are not examples of warwagon, they are just wagons.

This is how warwagon look:

War wagons were used quite extensively, especially the by Russians and Hussites, in the period covered by Medieval 2:Total War. They were also used a bit later on by Cossacks with great success. There is evidence to suggest that Koreans and Chinese also used similar vehicles.

I would like to see war wagons in the game. If not for historical accuracy's sake, then purely for modding purposes.

In my HRE campaign I faced some Hussite unites in game. I hopped they would use waggons, but not in that battle. They were rebel unitesi n Vienna btw. Don“t know about that, but can u choose war waggons in multiplayer battles???

sorry for ressurecting old thread ;)

I've played a bit with editor and text files released by CA there are few interesting things.

When browsing through the descr_unit.txt I've found that in game there's not only russian Gulay Gorod unit but there's also a unit called Wagon Fort for Poland and Hungary. When you play with these units ingame, they're just simple crossbow units (which is obvious as in code they don't have any siege engines attached, in contrary to, for example, great cross unit) However, the wagon fort has a special ability called..wagon fort!

Then, I've played a bit in the editor and I've found that there are a models of war wagons arranged in a defensive circle, that could be placed on map like predefined settlements - castles, vilages, or FORTS!

Combining these 2 things I came into conclusion how the war wagons would work if they were in game (maybe it'll possible to enable them later on, when we get the unpacker). So the war wagons wouldn't act as a siege equippement like rams, siege towers, standars etc, but they would be more like the forts that you can build on campaign map. In case your army was attacked by the enemy, and you had a wagon fort unit, your units would start inside the fort made of wagons. Of course, you wouldn't be able to move them, just hide behind, as it's the case of the normal fort.

This sounds worse than idea of moving the wagons by yourself, and arranging them into defensive circe, but on the oter hand it's quite realistic - after all wagon forts were defensive equippement, and using them in semi offensive role (as marching up your enemy, then setting up the fort) would be a bit off-realism.

Now I hope, we'll be able to make the wagon forts work after the patch comes out!

TW. There's another interesting observation - the Gulay Gorod has no special abililty called wagon fort nor they haven't got any siege equippement - I wonder how they were meant to work.
