View Full Version : laggy battles...

i just got MTW2, and the game works beautifully, until the first battle, it was slow and ungainly. the campaign map works fine, turns dont take long at all, but battles are a pain, i even put everything at the lowest possible output, but still it lags. i played Europa Barbarorum on high settings with huge unit size and battles worked fine, what kind of upgrades do i need to get to actually fight battles?
Theres something wrong with the way M2TW renders the visuals, especially when attacking or defending cities. 95% of the time I can run high graphics with everything set to high/very high, but there will be that one battle where frames take a dump and I have to put everything to low, especially unit detail. I don't know what causes this. I would suggest playing around with the different setting combined with different battle situations, see what works for you. Also make sure you have the newest video card drivers for your set up.
It seems to be the CPU that takes a massive hit. If you pause the game, the framerate usually becomes acceptable, which would suggest to me that it's the pathing or the AI that's causing the FPS hit.

I too have experienced this problem. It only occurs when attacking/defending settlements. The fighting starts well, with a good framerate, but after some 5 minutes, the framerate starts to drop. It even reaches a point where you get 1 frame per 6 seconds...

yeah, im computer illiterate, how do i upgrade it? do i need more RAM?
everything except battles works fine:furious3: :help:
Well that depends on your system specs....could you post them?
could be a memory leak that happens under these specific situation?

control panel: system. its all in there.
i foudn out what laggs seiges... its not ladders or seige towers... but the AI trying to cram everyone on it at the same time... noone gets on them, and it eats ur processor up... :wall:

ok so is this it?
pentium(r) d cpu 2.80GHz
2.80GHz 0.99 of RAM

yes, sir, it is.
ur processor looks like it will handle the game well, but unless u have AT LEASTE 1024 mb of ram, u will get lag when u are in the thick battles.
also, if u look thru the system manager stuff, it will tell u what "display device" u have. tell us what ur card is.

My Specs are,
-3.2 AMD64
-3gb RAM in dual channel config
-Geforce 7800GTX
and I still get this problem.

Yeah i really dont think any amount of upgrading could smooth out the seige-lag problem. It is true that the lag is a result of the AI trying to cram too many people through too small a space. This happens most commonly when the AI tries to assault with only one ladder but people have mentioned it in other instances as well like when the the AI tries to send its entire through one gate or when the AI tries to send its entire army over a single bridge (though i havent witnessed either of these). Regardless something happens and the CPU gets hit trying to figure out all the different calculations and because theyre all cramming in none of the units actually get onto the ladders so the problem never gets solved.
Ive noticed that the more troops that try and get on the ladders at once, the worse the lag. If you can kill off a good portion of them (with archers or something) then the lag is reduced somewhat but its still pretty unbearable.
I would say that you shouldnt bother upgrading your system if this is what youre experiencing. Hopefully CA will be able to fix the problem in the next patch because it is a huge problem.

i only get lag when using multiple units on same seige equipment (ladders or seige towers) so im pretty sure its a pathfinding ai bug
i have an opteron 148 running at 2.6ghz, 1gb ram, x800xtpe
i play on huge unit sizes only with all bells and whistles on :)

ok so like, how much more RAM do i need? and any idea of the cost(usa)?
just wanna make sure i can slay people with out bloody LAG
pretty sure i need more RAM since open field battles are just as bad as sieges...
and im not sure if this is it but
intel (r) 82945G express chipset family
??
is that it? i have an nvidia chip in my old computer but dont know how to install and it and all...

If you turn off blooming and shadows you will gain a huge boost of FPS. This will only help you at the normal battles though.
If you get the siege bug (mind me i dont get it very often - once in 100 battles? - i dont know why) then no upgrade or setting change will help you.

What sarjenius said.
If you system is a little below par, turning off shadows gives you a huge boost.
I have this exact same problem and it extends to most city and castle fights (though not always equally). I have been trying to note any particular things going on. Weather effects may be a culprit. I notice that city fights bog down with visible fog. The problem is that Ive seen it happen on standard conditions as well which generally rules that out as a problem. I don't think it has anything to do with settings since it does only happen under certain situations. It might even be linked to the AI bug, perhaps the game is taxing system resources in some strange feedback loop.

your system specs look fine.. still not sure on the video card since the above info is your motherboard :)
I suggest ya ppl wait for the patch and don't panic. my system barley meets the min. and the demos ran fine...

This is the minimum specs for maximum performance as detailed on the official sites technical section.

Hi All,
So I put this in the apothecary and no one is there so I thought I would drop it in here and see what everyone has to say.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Intel Core 2 Duo processor / Intel PentiumD 3.2ghz / AMD X2 4200+ /
2GB of RAM /
NVIDIA Geforce 7600GT \ ATI Radeon 1950 Pro
These are simply equivalent specs to those Sega ran on Gold day that had no problem playing maxed out.

No I don't mean to be rude but...............BS!!
I am running a brand new Dell XPS 700
with:
E6700 Core 2 Duo 2.66 Ghz
2 Gigs of ram
Nvidia 7950 GX2 with 1 gig of ram
...and I can not max out this game at 1248*1024. In fact I can't even get close!!! It is certainly laggy.
Anyone else go opinions or tips!!
