Man I just had a couple of crazy battles..

It was on H/H I'm still fairly new to the game I'm HRE and Venice beseiges then attacks vienna. This being one of my top money maker cities I was bummed to see the Venetians outnumbering me by about 2 to 1 and they had superior quality of forces... I was pretty sure I was about to get F'd in the A.

Anyway they assault with some ladders and a ram, I put a pair of crossbow militia on the walls along with 1 armored sergeant group, and 3 spear militia and 1 mailed knights and my general on the ground.

They break through my gates and engage the spearmen waiting for them it looked something like this:

X = my spearmen 0 = their heavy infantry (I forgot the name dismounted nobles maybe) V = my general / mailed knights

Meanwhile they assault my walls with some ladders and my crossbowmen / armored sergeants sandwiched them the same way like I did on the ground and killed their spearmen assault group.

Then I climbed down with my crossbowmen and the armored sergeants and completely surrounded the enemy at my gate... I ended up with about 100 units total left and my general died but I saved the city vs a hell of an army, it was pretty sick.

I love this game.

Other battle was vs the Danes up by Hamburg a few rounds later, I had a full stack army and they had 3 armies that equaled about 1.7 to 2 stacks, lucky for me I got them by a bridge and I ended up winning the battle because I brought about 6 crossbow units and after my entire army routed along with most of theirs, my crossbowmen were in the back the whole time and managed to finish the battle, once again I had maybe 100 units at the end.

Seems that you had a good fight!

If I have 3 or more foot units to spare I usually surround the whole they are coming with an U shaped formation. I let the come as deep as they come and then I sandwitch them from all sides. It seems to break their morale quite fast. So:

Four X means one of my footunits the ____ means wall with the breech. and four - means the enemy unit or units in the sandwitch.

In MTW2 you get abit more casualties than in RTW (especially with those greek pikemen) but you can still win against a larger opponent if your troop quality is even near theirs.

I recently fought a battle where the Germans besieged Hamburg (I'm the Danes), and I was outnumbered horridly. I had around 650, and the Germans were over 1300.

The only way I was able to win it was by blocking them up in a street, taking out their side attacks quickly (luckily my troops were much better than theirs), and circling in around with heavy infantry and cavalry.
