I realise this may be a tired topic - so please direct me to existing threads if need be.

I've been playing vanilla RTW for about three months - and lovin it.

But I thought I'd like to try out one of the mods - I thought maybe RTR or EB.

I've done some reading on both of the mods websites and also hunted round the guild - but I'm still a bit confused about which one to try first. I'm thinking maybe RTR.

Any advice or comments anyone? :stupido3:

I would highly recommend RTR Platinum Edition - have a look at the Will of the Senate threads in the Throne Room. We're doing a PBM as Rome with that mod and it's a blast.

Check out the battle reports:

and the Consuls' reports:

With EB, they are apparently close to releasing the next patch 0.8 so I would wait for that. (We are planning an EB PBM when the patch is out.) Apparently, It will be a big patch, making the game suitable for the latest patched version of RTW and adding a lot of content.

Both mods are, IMO, very similar - total conversions with a historical bent, but still covering the same ground as RTW. Both teams would probably be offended by this, but I regard them as almost the Coke and Pepsi of RTW mods.

There's some discussion here:

Be aware that if this becomes a RTR vs EB thread, it's liable to be locked.

Thanks for the advice - just what I was hoping for.

I'd like to eventually play both mods anyway.:juggle:

Good man. :2thumbsup: The amount of work the EB and RTR teams have both put in is staggering. And the outputs are more than commensurate.
