View Full Version : The Amusing Screenshots Thread [56kers beware!]

Thus far most of the screenshots on this forum seem to be used as arguements for why CA is stupid. The torch thing, the AI running around like a headless chicken during sieges...
So, I figure its time we had a thread full of entertaining screenshots :P
This is one of my favorites from my own screenshots folder. Imageshack apparently hates .png's now, so its in 'reduced quality format'. Looks much better when all the little spears are picked out in their high-def glory.

I wish you could save replays of campaign battles, 'cause the route of the Poles in this one was freakin' great.

Hahaha, that's hilarious ! With the few horses and tons of spearmen, it really looks like a foxhunt, or some cruel Bond-villain sport :laugh4:. Love it.
I don't have them saved on this machine, but someone else posted a few good ones. There was one in particular taken during a charge, where it was up close and a knight had skewered the rider in front of him square in the chest with his lance.
@ Sheogorath
This begs some good (light-hearted and friendly) polish jokes.

"A hundred Swedes ran through the reeds, followed by a single Norwegian."
And the like :P
Any /b/tards on here? I could find my '/b/lackup is here' picture. Its an in-joke, but funny as...something very funny to anybody from 4chan /b/.

https://img107.imageshack.us/img107/9344/wrong7ur.th.jpg (https://img107.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wrong7ur.jpg)
He's part of a big army attacking my city, but he was a unit of one. He took a wrong turn somewhere though, unfortunately for him. Other captions may be submitted.
edit: from the other direction:
https://img107.imageshack.us/img107/5024/wrong23lp.th.jpg (https://img107.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wrong23lp.jpg)
He charged in bravely right toward the strongest unit I had - even though he was "shaken". He hit the spears and it knocked him off his feet, but he courageously got back up,
https://img102.imageshack.us/img102/8062/wrong33zm.th.jpg (https://img102.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wrong33zm.jpg)
and tried to draw his tiny spear back to strike, and at that moment about three spears jabbed him and he dropped to the ground.
https://img152.imageshack.us/img152/6518/wrong45il.th.jpg (https://img152.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wrong45il.jpg)
Poor guy. He wasn't a dying gaul (this is Pergamon), but close I guess. He was a dying Pontic Doryphoros. I'll call him Ted.
Sheogorath and Aquitaine: your screenshots reminded me of this from the EB board.Ted has come back from the grave.

my issue is that i have to exit out of the game to do this as i find hitting the windows key or ctrl alt del does not effectively bring you back to windows with total war games. any tips please?

I looked at all my other generals and did not see the "Poor Speaker" trait anywhere, and since it has no effect I am guessing it is a shot at a certain motivational speaker due to the similarity in names.
I am sure some clever person could poke around and confirm if the Poor Speaker trait only applies to this name or if it is more universal...but that person is certainly not me.

Can anyone tell me how to show images in post?
Log in to your imageshack account, go to "My images", select "thumbnail view". Each of your uploaded images should have several strings listed near them, click in the first box under "embeddable code" (the one that starts with [IMG]) and press CTRL-C when the text is selected. Then switch to the forum reply editor and press CTRL-V where you want the image inserted.
Or just use xs.to (Much better host imho) and use the "direct link" code wrapped in tags.

Hey Steph, just how many did the archers in the second screenshot kill in that battle? sounds like you could have taken a lot down with you.
I don't remember exactly, but you can see on the picture that the spearmen (the 2 units on the right) are already seriously reduced. However I needed many arrows to kill them because they were armoured.
I think all 4 units were each reduced to approx a size of 12 (at which point I change the target to increase the chances of a hit).
I thought about charging them because they were all wavered. The only problem was that my men were exhausted...and also wavered!
I must say that in this story if I had kept my general guard unit on the field this would probably never happened because the spearmen would have attacked my general, not the archers.

It's a party and you're all invited!
Rather frustrating period in my Portugal game. Sicily and Venice factions kept crusing over to my island and placing stacks of troops on it. And the second they outnumbered me they'd attack me. I'd beat them off and we'd do a cease fire. And then they'd again drop units off on my island (without declaring war). And they'd just sit there, forcing me to keep a huge standing army.
And as for Milan being there? I've no idea, they never attacked me they just seemed to like keeping a small stack of troops there. Even the Pope visited the island, and he didn't even have an escort! If I weren't so nice I could easily have captured him and ransomed him.
Anyway... here (http://www.zen17212.zen.co.uk/Pics/MTW2/insanity.jpg) is my Russian leader. I'm rather proud of him.
And here (http://www.zen17212.zen.co.uk/Pics/MTW2/pretty.jpg) is one of the few princesses you'll ever see who has a fair few stars in Charm.
If this is an island with only one city, I would let him take it if he wishes. Just stack your own forces near his continental cities, and as soon as he attacks you, take 3 or 4 of his cities! :idea2:
Also, prepare an army on water and break all his ships, so he cannot disembark to attack your back. Or blockage strategic point on the sea.

If this is an island with only one city, I would let him take it if he wishes.
As it turns out, they (eventually) gave up standing around doing nothing and sailed away to defend their own lands from invaders. Except the Milan stack, which just stayed there.
The downside was the great drain on my limited resources by keeping an army there. The good sides were that the Pope hated Venice and Sicily for attacking me (Papal States in fact made Sicily their vassal later on). That and after each failed attempt at taking the island.. I'd charge them tons of cash for a ceasefire.
What happened in MTW is that the enemy stacked a lot of units on the islands and I resisted several sieges. During this time (my goal was to take total control of the sea), I sent ships to destroy his navy and when he took my castle he was left alone on the island. He staid there until the end of the game, when I massed several thousand troops and send them for a finaly "good bye". It was like 5000 veteran troops against 150 ;)

Thats because of the fleet. Any fleet that sits on a landbridge blocks it. Even your own fleet will block your troops, unless you use the ship to move them across. Its an effective tactic I've been using in my Portugal campaign. I have contained the moors in north Africa with a massive fleet protecting the straights of Gibraltar. It means I took Cordoba, Granada, and Valencia while the bulk of the Moorish army was stuck on the other side. I can then pacify the regions with priests and remain free of attack from that side. Just make sure your fleet is strong enough to hold the position.

These ferocious and clever creatures are from the far-off steppes of Central Asia, and it is highly unusual to find them so far from their native range. It takes great skill to capture such wild animals. You must place battering rams at a precise distance and then trick the Mongols into turning the trebuchets in opposite directions. What's that? Oh they are constantly running in their box, that's how they stay fit. Oh no, Mongols are known to be very dangerous to Danes so you must stay out of the cage or your battle might finish early. Bribe of course. He cost me an arm and a leg but hit was worth it. The very same turn I converted him, I sent him off to kill a stranded unit--and to my surprise, he spoke perfect English during the battle speech! Not only that, he came to battle in full metal armor on a horse even! I'm beginning to suspect that he wasn't an Aztec but a Portuguese pretending to be an Aztec waiting for the bribe money. But then, it brings to question how a Portuguese spoke perfect English...

I actually took it slow and with diplomacy, but striking back fierce fully when betrayed. I had victory conditions by turn 50 (mainly by buying off towns from the AI early on) and started building up for mongols and timurids. Had my armies wait outside town during the plague so only lost half my family but no soldiers. I shipped people from spain, southern italy, greece, middle east and england to Lisbon where I was building the naval drydock when it became available at 94 and started that building at turn 95 at Cordoba, Marrakesh, Genoa and Palermo. Transferred troops directly from dragon boats onto carracks and sailed west (to go east according to the narrator).
Do note that those are all my forces and I had noone in the middle east defending when the second wave of timurids arrived (note yerevan was plundered)
Eventually did build up a few troops there to stop them, but that's another story.
Pity I didn't take a screen when I fought aztecs on a volcano (I initially thought that terrain would prevent me from even reaching them, but eventually I did with all troops exhausted :p )

You call that SLOW?!?
Actually yes. Steamrolling would mean victory by turn 35-40 with a reputation of despicable, but I had a reputation of trustworthy by the end of my campaign. You can try it yourself.
Right at the start of the game when you can get 6-8k in florins per alliance/map/trade offer and more if you sell your princess or buy theirs. If you collect those florins OR trade those things for a town instead, you can have towns all over the map fairly early. From those you can then expand into rebel settlements other factions usually would expand to as you get a free merc garrison on buying settlements.
If you then play aggressively but at the same time only attack those who declare war on you (never declaring war on someone yourself), you keep a good reputation and are free to plunder.

Here's one I call "Converting Thesalonica". I count 6 Venetian Priests (3 Cardinals, 3 Priests), versus 2 Byzantine Priests, with 2 more on the doorstep.
Current conversion status is 57% Catholic.
I noticed the Byzantine priests start to flock to that province a few turns ago. Unfortunately my Agent Limit has been reached with regards to Priests. Once the conversion process becomes too slow they'll be headin down to the holy land.
