I can't find how to do this in the Scriptorium. How do you do this

It depends what you're starting from. if you're using either BI or RTW vanilla game they already have the max limit of 21 factions so you can't add another, you have to convert one of the existing ones!

If you're using a mod that doesn't use all the faction slots then it would be possible to add another back into strat... please clarify what are you using / trying to achieve?

I was going to add 3 more factions and just have the Romen Empire. How would I do that.

well it's impossible to add more than 20 (21 with rebels) factions... you can edit their names by editing data/text/ expanded_bi.txt or expanded.txt if you don't have BI installed, don't edit the names in the {} only the names outside them

hope this helped but i'm not sure what you wanted to do:juggle2: and remember to make back-ups etc

Basically we're both saying to change the vanilla game you'd have to choose three existing factions to convert to your new ones. In BI if you only want one roman faction you can leave empire_east for example - and convert empire_west, empire_west_rebels and empire_east_rebels - to convert them you also need to remove the shadowing and re-emergent attributes in sm_factions and descr_strat, then they can be treated like any other faction.

In RTW you have more problems having only one roman faction as there's various hard-coded problems to do with the senate - they vary according to what patch / version you're using.

If you need more advice please say exactly which game /patch you are intending to use - and whether you are intending to keep any of the other existing factions as well as your 3 new + 1 roman......:dizzy2:

You might want to patch your game before you start modding. Most people use 1.5, not many use 1.0 anymore (as far as I know). Go to options to make sure you only have 1.0, mine came as 1.5.

If you're at 1.2 or lower you can't change culture of unwanted roman factions as option didn't exist in sm_factions - so if you tried converting those factions they would still get senate missions. And you also couldn't entirely remove senate from strat for those patches.

You really do need to patch to 1.5 first - a. as its more flexible and b. as everyone else now seems to be using it, answers you get for future questions are likely to refer to it!

This (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=63904) will show you how to make a roman faction non-roman, relocate it to a province outside of the italian peninsula, and give its original provinces to one of the remaining roman factions.
