hi, I'm trying to unlock all the factions in the Imperial campaign, but I don't know how, I found this via gamespot:
Run or go to <your directory>\Data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_strat.txt then you will see a list of the nations you can use in the beginning the end unlockable ones and the non playables. cut and past the unplayable factions to the unlockable nations. then save it and close it. now you need to complete a campaign mode and all of the factions will be unlocked
but have no clue how to do so, can anyone help?

well, to simplify it, and to basically say the exact same thing, follow this. go to the rome directory, enter the data folder, enter the world folder, open maps, open campaign, open imerial_campaign, and open descr_strat. at the top, it will say(minus the first few lines)
campaign imperial_campaign
playable
romans_julii
romans_brutii
romans_scipii
end
unlockable
egypt
seleucid
carthage
parthia
gauls
germans
britons
greek_cities
end
nonplayable
romans_senate
macedon
pontus
armenia
dacia
scythia
spain
thrace
numidia
slave
end
now cut the unlockable factions. and paste them into the playable section. it should look something like this:
campaign imperial_campaign
playable
romans_julii
romans_brutii
romans_scipii
egypt
seleucid
carthage
parthia
gauls
germans
britons
greek_cities
end
unlockable
end
nonplayable
romans_senate
macedon
pontus
armenia
dacia
scythia
spain
thrace
numidia
slave
end
then copy the unplayable factions into the playable, or unlockable section, but not both. it should look like this:
campaign imperial_campaign
playable
romans_julii
romans_brutii
romans_scipii
egypt
seleucid
carthage
parthia
gauls
germans
britons
greek_cities
macedon
pontus
armenia
dacia
scythia
spain
thrace
numidia
end
unlockable
end
nonplayable
romans_senate
slave
end
or
campaign imperial_campaign
playable
romans_julii
romans_brutii
romans_scipii
egypt
seleucid
carthage
parthia
gauls
germans
britons
greek_cities
end
unlockable
macedon
pontus
armenia
dacia
scythia
spain
thrace
numidia
end
nonplayable
romans_senate
slave
end
there you go, they should all work, except the factions in the unlockable section. you will only be able to play them when you beat the campaign, or when the faction is destroyed in game.
a few rules to remember when doing this.
you cannot play as the roman senate or slaves doing this. always make a back up (the original) file of the actual descr_strat in your documents(or else where, besides the data folder. the last rule also applies to anyfile you modify. MAKE A BACK UP IN CASE SOMETHING GOES HORRIBLY WRONG!!!!!!!
and always use -show_err in the command line. on your desktop, right click on the RTW shortcut, and click properties. at the end of the target line, add
-show_err.
hope it helps. if anything goes wrong, the -show_err should tell you whats wrong. if it doesnt, post it here, and someone will help you.

I explore'd the "SegaRome" disc, and there were only 2 things called Data, which where both WinRaR

oh, haha. you have to go: My Computer: Local Disk (C:): Program Files: Activision (or the creative assenmbly if its published by sega): Rome Total War: Data.
then you continue to where i told you in the my first post explaining the whole thing to you.

if possible, the spqr is playable only after some heavy modding, and someone (i think prof spatula) made a mod for bi where the slaves are playable, and i think that would be lot easier than the spqr, but it would take a bit of modding, as it is more than just changing the descr_strat file.
In UTw it is possible, you have changed it?

no, you unite them under the julii, not the senate.

In my game you can play as the Senate the same way you can play as the Armenians...
That was in a older version(the never version was bugged)
I did all the above, and I've also installed the 1.5 and 1.6 patches, extracting the files to their appropriate destuinations, but after winning a campaign i still got the basic 8 factions. I bought the game in the gold edition format, is this why it's not working for me? Please help, thanks,

did you put the unplayable factions in the unlockable or playable section? all should be available. if a faction is in the playable section, it is playable when you start the game. if it is in the unlockable section, you have to beat the campaign or destroy the faction in the game to be able to play it. if it is in unplayable, nothing except modding can bring it into the game.
I made it look just like the above example, I've never had so much trouble monkeying with a game :furious3: Any other ideas? Thanks

Go into your descr_strat, paste the parts you changed so we can see them. Also, if you put them in unlockable, try putting them in playable.
always make a back up (the original) file of the actual descr_strat in your documents(or else where, besides the data folder. the last rule also applies to anyfile you modify. MAKE A BACK UP IN CASE SOMETHING GOES HORRIBLY WRONG!!!!!!!

true, true
and if you happen to make multiple modifications, keep a notepad about what you have modified, it can be something as simple as:
"EDB, temple mars => victory+EDA ancillaries"
it's a simple reminder, and it can be a lifesaver
in case something goes wrong, just go to your backup and replace the part you modified in your data folder with the original.
ok, here's what it looks like now

I would suggest making it look more like this:
; Custom campaign script generated by Romans Campaign Map Editor
campaign imperial_campaign
playable
romans_julii
romans_brutii
romans_scipii
greek_cities
britons
egypt
seleucid
carthage
parthia
gauls
germans
britons
macedon
pontus
armenia
dacia
numidia
scythia
spain
thrace
end
unlockable
end
nonplayable
romans_senate
slave
end
if you try to play as the senate, it might work, but it will cause a ctd due to the missions and everything. You should copy that and put it in your descr_strat file, overwriting the original. Report back to us about the results.
i thought there was a mod avaliable that you just downloaded. [ the all factions mod] and it was simple as it installed it,s self directly to the game without you having to do anything except download it.?

I'm pretty sure that if you do do that, you still need to install it, but I think that works, too.
