Figured this one out. Its playing by the rules, but is abusive. I'd call it an exploit as even though its working as intended, I don't think CA intended this. :beam:

Basically, when a Crusade is completed, all units of the winning faction that were on crusade get +1 experience, regardless of what their current experience is. Also, a player can have multiple armies in a Crusade. They don't need to be near each other. So, place one army into the Crusade and send them off. Now, the turn that your Crusader army is going to take the city, place as many armies back in your territories into crusades. Remember, it only takes a leader and minumum of 7 units to form a crusade. Now take the city. All your units, regardless of where their crusader army was at on the map, gains 1 exp. Now, to exploit the (*&#$ out of this... :inquisitive:

A Crusade can be called every 10 turns (10 turns since the end of the last crusade.) So spread your leaders out, 1 to a city. Now to get the Pope to accept your suggestion of Crusade locations you need to be in good with him. So have a diplomat near a Papel city. Pope points (redeamable at all Cathedrals :clown: ) can be bought for about 1000 coin. Get yourself up to 10 standing and then take a look at the cities that can be selected. Pick one that is near and fits into your plans for conquest. I've never had the Pope say no if I've had 10 standing.

Once the location is chosen (perferably close by), launch a Crusade. Generally my cities have about 6 or 7 armies in them anyhow, but if they don't, build enough units to have 7 (build units you actually want. No use building a peasant just so they can get 1 exp.) The turn that I'll conquer the city I have all my generals make a crusader army with all my units. Take the target city and every one gets 1 exp.

Rinse and repeat in 10 turns. As the French I've currently got one mean army of high exp units. Only wish that exp was as useful as it was in RTW.

It's your choice to use the exploit => it's not game breaking.

Experience does not make that much of a diffrence in MTW2 though, if it was like in MTW then it would be worth it heh

Also remember crusades are a cheap way to get coin. Recruiting is dirt cheap, and you can just sack the settlement (usually a capital with lots and lots of coin) and destroy all the buildings....then just move the army and leave rebels take it over. This army you are now paying for, but the initial recruiting costs were so low it doesn't matter...now just go on a rampage against your enemies. Destroyed Portugal this way and used the money to improve my own settlements which in the long run earns me more money. Also I find that other sides are less likely to go on a crusade against a catholic side, which means you are always first there. It certainly is good to be friends with the pope :laugh4: .
