alright, one thing that really puts me off are the incomprehensible victory conditions. i don't get it!! it seems to be much more complicated than RTW!! and I have read through the FAQ which didn't really include this. Can anyone help me on this??

Victory conditions will list a number of settlements that must be taken. You can get a visual representation of this if you go to your faction info screen and click on the question mark twice (or is it just once). This will show white targets around every settlement that you are required to capture and hold.

also your faction leader has some info in his profile that gives you some additional information

You will see maps for victory conditions also for each faction, in game, in 0.8.

Yes, since 0.8 is going to use 1.5 (which is just BI in every single way possible except you cant Horde).

Well, these things are possible to implement in 1.5, they are just very buggy. I believe Lusted tried (or managed) to put them in TE, can't recall if they were successful or not.

Both of them work just fine in 1.5. It's things like hording and BI unit formations that you can't add into 1.5, and some people claim that the 1.6 AI is slightly better.
How do you see the areas you need to take? I read the names under the leader, but how do you see them?
Check your faction scroll (hotkey O) and click the ? button. The advisor will pop up and the cities you need to take (but don't yet control) will be highlighted.
