View Full Version : When is a Jihad cancelled ?
Hi All !
I just did a Jihad on Edessa. In the last turn before the rebel army starved out, they sallied out (as usual). I defeated them, and once I took the city I got a message saying the Jihad was cancelled because the infidels are no longer there (or close to that).
1. What does that mean ?
2. You cannot Jihad against Muslim rebels ?
3. When is a Jihad cancelled ?
4. Is there a time limit to completing the Jihad once you've joined an army to the Jihad ?
Thanks in advance !
I've never played a Muslim faction, so I can't answer from experience. However, I'd guess that's like an uneventful crusade. The same thing probably would have happened if Edessa had been captured by an army that wasn't part of the jihad. You technically didn't capture the city. You gained ownership of the city because you were besieging it and suddenly there wasn't a garrison anymore. If you had assaulted and won, it would have been a successful jihad.
From my experience (on the receiving end :furious3:), the jihad ends when the last army that is part of the jihad is destroyed.

There is a time limit in which you can complete the jihad but if i remember correctly the game gives you a message telling you that the jihad is almost out of time a few turns before the limit.
Hmmm... one thing I did right before the enemy sallied out is add a few catapults to the jihad army, but they did'nt have the Jihad symbol in battle or on the campaign map. When I checked the join jihad button it read "abandon jihad" meaning that the units were actually part of the jihad army, but the graphic was'nt showing.
OK. I think I've got it.
I reloaded to the prior save and this time I did not ADD any other units to the Jihad army once I had clicked "Join Jihad". The result was that after the city battle the Jihad succeeded and I got the 1000 Florins, plus exp bonus to all units involved.
Seems to be a bug with Join Jihad. Wonder if it applies to Crusade armies too. Alternatively it could be you have to wait a few turns before the game recognises the addition to the existing Jihad army of any new units. The problem in any case was as Quillan mentioned, that the game thinks that the whole army is not a Jihad army hence it cancels the Jihad.
Hope that helps anyone else who might face the same issue.
Salute !
Sinan, have you posted this to the Org Bug List yet? The Eggies were one of my favorite factions in MTW, and I'd hate to see suffer from such a bug in the sequel.

I did not notice a time limit for Jihad, I believe they work exactly like crusades: failed when there are no more armies, and desertion when an army takes too long / does not move towards target.

I remember my first crusade. I added four units to my crusader army before laying siege. I took Jerusalem and got the rewards, so if it's a bug, I guess it is only related to Jihads not to crusades..

This very thing happened to me. I assaulted the city, though, knocking the gates down with a battering ram.
It did not, however, happen when I took Baghdad by Jihad in an earlier Egyptian campaign in the same fashion. Nor did it happen when I took Jerusalem with a Jihad earllier in this current game.
Perhaps this bug only bites in Edesssa, which would be weird. I don't know if it effects Constantinople or other citys, because I haven't gone that far yet.

And another thing: I tried to have another stack join the Crusade to Edessa. I was told in two different turns that I "did not have enough units" to join the Jihad, even though I had five, then six units plus a general in two separate turns.

You need atleast 8 units to join a crusade/jihad
Ok thanks. I posted a link to this thread in the bug report sticky. If anyone wants to elaborate, please feel free, as I'm way too busy playing to do so myself :P
Workaround:
1. Create FULL army which will join the Jihad.
2. Join the Jihad with that army at the same time.
3. Carry on Jihading.
