Read away (http://www.metro.co.uk/news/article.html?in_article_id=26183&in_page_id=34). I'm sorry I could not get a better source right away.
McDonald's wants to own the rights to how a sandwich is made.
The fast-food chain has applied for a patent relating to the 'method and apparatus' used to prepare the snack.
The burger company says owning the 'intellectual property rights' would help its hot deli sandwiches look and taste the same at all of its restaurants.
It also wants to cut down on the time needed to put together a sandwich, thought to have been dreamt up by the Earl of Sandwich in 1762.
and I suppose next they will want a patent for cows, so that their burgers will taste better at all their restaurants. Or how about waiting in a queue so that their service will be better. Or how about a patent for hats so that their employees will look better. Notice any relation between the patent and the effect? Nope, neither do I.
It isn't going to do squat for all their deli sandwiches, it's to make money, any fool can see that.
Wouldn't this be extremely difficult to do? I'm no lawyer, but I'm sure prior art applies.

So, next time I'm making lunch, I'll be stealing property from Mickey D's? :smash:

Yep, he allegedly devised the eponymous snack to allow him to continue playing cards without having to stop to eat.

The Fourth Earl was also the First Lord of the Admiralty at one point.

Everyone knows those burgers aren't made from cows.:sweatdrop:

I would like to nominate the good Earl as the Patron Saint of Gamers' Nutrition. I'm sure all MTW fans will appreciate his contributions to extending gaming time :laugh4:
Louis: yes, Sandwich is in Kent, near a town called Ham, and there is a well-known signpost which reads "Ham Sandwich" at a nearby crossroads!

Do we have to pay royalty to Golden Arches each time we make sandwiches? What will happen to local delis?
Well living in the islands formerly known as the "Sandwich Islands", I can only hope that whoever gives the ruling in the case eats a sandwich in the courtroom and then slaps the McDonalds lawyers for trying to patent it.

For the last 2 years me and my friends have normally gone to McDonalds for lunch, and I have NEVER bought anything from them. I just sit there eating my packed lunch waiting for the day they say "No outside food, you will have to leave.":2thumbsup:
The last time I ate at McDonalds was on the Rambla Nova in Tarragona. It was quite nice, actually.:laugh4:
Damn liberals! It were the liberals, I tell you! Bloody liberals, bloody good for nothings.

The 11th Earl of Sandwich has a restaurant franchise (one in Disneyland IIRC).
Details here (http://www.earlofsandwichusa.com/).
I imagine his IP lawyers are salivating, and not over the choice fillings.

The fast-food chain has applied for a patent relating to the 'method and apparatus' used to prepare the snack.Hold on, this is brilliant!
Let them patent their brand of sandwich. Make sure the patent is mercilessly enforced. By military means, if need be. Anything to make sure that nobody, but nobody else in the entire world makes their kind of sandwich! Ever!

HI!
Crossloper, you are my hero.
This is exactly what is going on, and we have tolerated it for much too long.
I mean we all know who is behind all the riots, the bomb attacks and street robberies these days.

Mildly disturbing. You have been warned.

Keep the evidences! If McDo ever gets the patent, you might try to sue them. After all, McDonalds never ever informed you that you shouldn't try to make a sandwich at home, let alone they informed you about the possible dangers involved, e.g. cutting your own finger...

Happily the evidence is still quite attached to me, although I do get funny looks in the local sandwich shop when I ask them for a tuna pesto on ciabatta with blood and finger pieces on the side...

...I would just like to assure all of you that it was indeed plastic, much like the kind of which the food you eat at McDonald's is made of. I will not post such material again in the frontroom.
much like the kind of which the food you eat at McDonald's is made of.
Don't call it food. There ain't no such thing as food sold at MacDonald's...

Don't call it food. There ain't no such thing as food sold at MacDonald's...Sure it is.
Look, there's Food as an artform; and there's food as a quick, hygienic way to fill your stomach.
McDonald's has perfected the latter and there's no shame in that. They make absolute wonderful stuff, yummie!

I've never understood the snobbery some people have about McDonalds. If you're hungry and in a rush, it's extremely convenient.
As long as you aren't eating it every day, there's nothing wrong with it.
I like MacDonalds, and eat there loads - especially because they are open very late which is useful, the foods okay, and very very cheap :2thumbsup:
The bright red and yellow signs really annoy me though, i walk along the high street, and !wham! a giant cardboard cut out of a ridiculously happy clown dressed in outrageously coloured clothes appears, and i walk straight into it, cue huge hilarity by onlookers and great embarassment for me :furious3:

Don't really mind the food cause I would never eat it, but I hate the company with a passion. The architecture of these 'buildings' are nothing but pollution, I hate these high poles with the signs you see everywhere (which amazes me, normal people have to pay protectionmoney at at least 30 commisions that investigate wether or not it suits with the surroundings if you want to paint your chimney a different color) and they get away with this;
