The Brutii are perfect for taking out thosepowerful factions. Even though the game is a little repetative:wall: it gets more intresting after you have over 50 settlements:yes: or when your at war witht the other Roman famillies. But thats my oppion. I guess in the long run it dosen't matter. What do you guys think about the game? :2thumbsup: or

If you mean RTW then :2thumbsup: but if you mean the Brutii

It is too easy to win with the Brutii, they get to fight phalnix, all you have to do is have peasants to hold ground for a few seconds till you get your cavalry around.

Phalanx easy?!
Phalanx is impossible. By the time I get my cav round the back my (good and bad) Infantry has routed so the Phalanx can face my cav. The only time I can manage to beat phalanx is with post-Marian Pretorians/Urbans: they kill some of the unit off with their javelins and they can hold out long enough for me to send the cavalry to the rear.

europa barbarorum anyways.

just don't engage your infantry easily, use javelins and cut their line in half using gladiators or your best units then break the center. i could never get a good amount of roman cavalry so infantry all the way. plus your also more manuverable and have the same merc access that they do. If all else fails just bombard them with missles from javelins to those beloved cretans

Whenever I encounter the phalanx, I usually use some infantry or my phalanx if I'm using a nation of that type to act as bait while I send my cavalry around back. If I move quick enough, I can do considerable damage to the phalanx while not sustaining a whole lot of casualties. When the phalanx routs, the cavalry will be good at mopping up the routing units. :charge:

But alas, I digress. While the Brutii are powerful, they do have it a bit easy with the money. If I had to choose one of the Roman factions, I would choose the Scipii. They don't have the funds available like the Brutii, and when you get later on in the campaign you can recruit some nice naval units. As far as non-Roman factions go, I would have to choose the Seleucids. They have an awesome mix of units if you can survive long enough to obtain them. With Egypt, Pontus, Parthia, and Armenia to deal with, it is an interesting start to a campaign. If you can survive, it is quite a fun campaign.

No way, you get your peasants rather far back from the centre of the battle, and have your cavalry start on the front and to the sides, they only send like one phalanx unit after your cavalry and you can easily dodge that.

If the game is getting old and repetitive for you, I'd suggest RTRPE, a port of Rome Total Realism for RomeTotalWar 1.5. Very good mod, with some other great minimods to go along... but Econ21 should turn up soon to post the download links...
