Is there anyway to increase the general's piety?
Although I placed them with 3 priests for some time in a castle, there is no change to their piety.

Any thoughts?

Cathedrals and Huge Cathedrals (and their Orthodox and Muslim versions) help. You can get retinues by the name of "Deacon" which increases your piety.

Thank you Kekvit - it's good to hear from you again.

But the "Pagan Magician" is far more common and gives -2 piety, so it's a bit of an uphill battle.

Yeah that is very common. Seem to be a lot of pagan mugicians floating all over the place. They hitch easy too.

you can attach agents to your armies.

try attaching a priest/Iman to your generals army as it moves about and that should help him stay pious.

the way the piety mechanic for generals works seems broken to me. Aside from from completing a crusade or constructing a cathedral, theres really no way to raise piety (and there by avoid being killed by the highly ahistorical inquisition)

being nice to followers of your religion and harsh to followers of others ought to affect piety. also being in a province whilst it gets converted to your religion should affect piety positively (or vise versa).

I also think the pope should dole out missions that left raise some of your general's piety. like telling you to claim a territory from a faction of a rival religion (or from an excommunicated faction).
