View Full Version : Unable to build Watchtowers
I can't build watchtowers or forts anywhere in the Algiers and Cairo regions for some strange reason. This really quite irritating. I checked the regions file but there's nothing special about these two regions. Can anyone else confirm having this bug?
I don't think it's a bug. There are wide areas of desert where I can't build watchtowers either. On the road from Timbuktu north, once you move from the medium fertility area into the wilderness, no more watchtowers can be built. I've built a couple in Algiers, both along the road west of the settlement before the river. Keep in mind, you can't build one next to a foreign character.
I can't build them on the roads either, that's the problem.
Could be the old bug that carried over from RTW that if a flood occurs the province is permanantly damaged instead of temporarily. If you remember for certain that there was a flood then send the save game to CA so this old bug is squashed for good. I dont think any other disasters cause this. Or if you cant remember any disasters there still send it to them and let them figure out what causes a province unable to be built in.
I am very confused. An earthquake occurred in Algiers and now I can build there again...
Then it's very likely a past flood was the cause. What I used to notice in RTW was if a disaster struck, like flooding in a province or a volcano eruption, and I reloaded a save game that turn, the disaster wouldn't be represented anymore. The effects were still there, though. It's probably that the flood flag remained long past where it was supposed to, preventing you from building.

yes I had forgotten about that but a second natural disaster does bring the province back to normal. Although I could have sworn that it was for floods only.
Quillan is right though that if you realize the natural disaster that turn a reload on that turn kills that bug. Unfortanately you dont get notices when it is the AI's province unless you had troops/agents there the only guaranteed solution would be to reload every turn and that doesnt seem to mess up the AI as at least 90 percent of thier moves appear to be repeated.
Edit: I believe it was reloading from the autosave that stopped the bug
Edit again: Did a search in the coliseum and in RTW you could load from autosave to correct the problem and I'm hoping it's the same for MTW2. I think you must load from autosave as saving and loading afterwards still causes the bug to be present.

Reported in bug thread. Thanks for your help guys, I never would have thought an earthquake could last 100 turns (turn 50-60 to 154).
I am having the same problem, has there been any fixes besides reloading the autosave? It must of happened before I had troops in the area so I couldn't reload the autosave and now I am stuck not being able to build watchtowers in Algiers.
Thanks

I am playing with the unofficial 1.2 patch and find this bug occur. I did try the autosave trick but it is not working. [Not sure if i am doing it correctly tho]
If anyone know any work around on this bug? either modding it or any cheat code to ignore the movement penalty?
I can't build watchtowers or forts anywhere in the Algiers and Cairo regions ether. So there may be a set 'flood' or what ever there. A bug! Please kill it! :hmg: Thanks SadCat
