The Papacy: A fine feature that I quite enjoy, BUT...

I am totally thrilled with Papal relations to the player in this new Total War. The college of cardinals, the papal missions, and the relationship system are all very nicely done. I especially like the limiting effect of the pope.

HOWEVER, I wish other christian nations would pay more attention to papal decree instead of being excommunicated at every turn. Kinda ruins it when the player is the only one paying attention to the vatican.

I agree with you. The AI does not seem to care what the pope does. In my main Campaign at the moment, the pope got angry after i killed 2 in battle, and has now gone on a killing spree (papal states own huge amounts of land)

Actually the AI factions do relate to the Papal decrees.

Since I'm at war with every faction I have a border with as the HRE, I'm at war with technically 70% of the factions in the game. However, Poland, France and Sicily are currently staying low. I suppose that they got their own warnings. And since Venice recaptured Zagreb, they have also held back. I find that my enemies attack in short bursts. Though the Sicilians have been naughty a number of times and been excommed.
