i know this has been discussed before in another thread, but this thread is NOT THE SAME. so, when I capture a enemy city, do I destroy all of their buildings? or only some? will there be culture penalty? or is there no need to destroy it? there seems to be many things that need to go under consideration...so I need some advice here.

ie. I played as the Macedons and just conquered Athens, I destroyed their governmental building and built my own :2thumbsup: *pat myself on the back* BUT,what do I do with the Koinon Hellenon's barracks, traders, blacksmiths, and all those other buildings?? and even more strange is when I opened the city details summary there were no signs of culture penalty!?

Yeah, just the gov. building. I'm not sure but temples of other cultures might cause penalties in the long run. Macedonians and greeks are basically of the same culture, so no penalties there...

the only thing youre supposed to destroy is the government complex, if they have one :beam:

sometimes you get a complex thats actually the same as one you can build, like for example if youre playing as koinne hellenon (greeks) some rebel cities with a greek background will have 'hellenic local tyrant' complexes which are exactly the same ones your own faction builds.

im afraid i dont know what the team's official stance is towards instances like that :sweatdrop:

It's your choice whether you destroy the others. Some are helpful, but if they are a different culture you get a culture penalty if they are there. We don't have opinions on the other. Try role-playing though - if you really hate them and you've been sieging their city for a while, let your guys sack the place a little more. If it was a quick fight for some city that you bore no ill will to, leave it alone. Etc.

Roleplaying it is the best way to go. Playing as the Epeirotes, I was forced to give a tribute to Athens or they would attack. After that slight, and with the threat of a war anyway I geared for a military attack on Athens to show those Athenians what-for! Destroying an army two times the size of mine, the Athenians saw the error of their ways and allowed me to march into their city as their conqueror. The General Androkleiones, who has developed quite an intelligent though brooding personality, stayed true to his word and didn't allow the city to be sacked (too much), but his first act as conqueror was to disband the democratic institutions (ie destroy the KH gov) and take back the grants of land that had been given to the Athenian nobility. Once a military government had been set up, work began on installing a tyrant to oversee the future of Athens as a city of the Epierote kingdom of Alexandros Aiakides.

So much fun.

I love to roleplay with diplomacy, but when it comes to other stuff for me it's all about strategy. If I can use it, I keep it. If I can't and I need the money, I destroy it.

i love to get absorbed in the atmosphere of the game, particulary each of my generals, who i develop a sort of personality for over time, and treat them accordingly. but i always have that cold blooded micromanager within me so i draw the line for roleplaying when it comes to circumstances that may hinder my progess

sometimes i even massacre towns with a general who i know will react badly to slaughtering people because i know it just wouldent be possible to hold the town otherwise. speaking of which, whats the worst that can happen in this sort of circumstance?, a few of my generals have 'bad dreams' but they dont seem to have anything else wrong with their minds.

now that i think of it i should really be using the 'cares for people' family members as governers and save the cold blooded ones for generals so i dont have this problem :laugh4:

You can roleplay with diplomacy!? :dizzy2: Oh I see, to explain why the AI did that...

With me it's usually the Christopher Walken joke:

My diplomat: I would like to offer you this cookie.
AI response: Frankenstein NEVER scared me!
My diplomat: ...yeah okay.

EB's next plan should be try to get diplomacy from easy and med difficulties to work with VH and H. Then create a force diplomacy script for those extremely hard diplomatic options to obtain, like military access, protectorates, attack faction, accept of we will attack etc.

Can't be done.
