"Wouldn't it be nice" if priests could debate each other?

I think that priests should have the option of engaging a priest of a different
religion in a debate. As a result, the piety rating of the priests would change,
reflecting the fact that the loser would have a harder time influencing people,
and that the winner would become even better at getting his point across.

Historically, debates like this happened, or at least, they are now part of the
lore in Christian Orthodox countries. 'Sweet tongued' is often used to refer
to medieval priests in, at least, Bulgaria and Greece. Tales are told about
such and such theologist who challenged a 'Papal' scholar, and crushed him
with cunning arguments on some obscure point.

Propaganda? Probably. But still, it would be another way to deal with the
influx of preachy enemy priests... sending assassins against priests and
princesses is something I cringe at. Speaking of princesses, any general
should be able to court these. And frankly, rejection should not necessarily
be a bad thing when it comes to their effectiveness as a warrior, should it?

I'd like to see this as a way to deal with preachers of other religions. So, you wouldn't be able to challenge other christian preachers, but have to debate with imams or orthodox priests.

I was just thinking about this due to my HRE campaign, although I figured that they should just put each other on trial for heresy... I mean, why should some snot-nosed Imam walk right up to my Antioch and not have any of my nearby Priests and Cardinals able to do anything about it? BLASPHEMY!

Actually I don't even have Antioch anymore, and my HRE is collapsing upon itself from oh so many enemies... ah, but thats for another time...

I think this is a great idea. I can't see it being introduced unfortunately but I wish it was.
Someone said in another topic how this is the best Total War game yet for playing purely as a turn-based game. Little things like this make all the difference. Love it.

I'm not crazy about micromanaging merchants to compete with each other, so I can't say I'd be too thrilled with priests debating each other.
