I just found this site interersting. It goes all the way from our birth to the 1st Gulf War (Excludes 2nd Iraq War)

1.2 million total war dead, I read. That's pretty incredible considering their war record, and the fact that ¼ of those were suffered during WWII. Puts the usual "America suffered little and won a lot" crap about the U.S. in WWII in perspective, at the very least...

300.000 dead Americans isn't a large amount once you realize it formed (at the time) upwards of ¼ of their total war dead in one and a half century?

Well, you've seen the figures on the Soviets right ? According to some estimates Stalingrad alone ate a million soldiers; and the German formations on the East Front were also getting depleted at a right scary rate.

Of course I have. What I don't know is how they hold up in regards to total Russian/Ukrainian/Belorussian/other former Soviet republican war dead.

All in all, the American number was a surprise. I'd have expected more. :shrug:
