Hello guys...I just downloaded the 0.8 EB and I am so sad to inform u that I met some serious problems and I was wondering if u could help me...After installing it I run it.From the start menu the low third of the screen was distorted and purple .Actually in the disotorted area there were multiple visions of the start menu in a purple hazy background...Unfortunately my English are not the best so I hope u understand what I try to say..Ok I thought that this would be the problem only in the menu so I continued making my choices..To my bitter disapointment the same problem continued in the game too...The lower third was distorted with little copies of what there was going on the screen....

Do u have any idea of what may be wrong??Is it possible that the problem is that I have the RTW GOld edition???Or that I didnt restart my pc after installing EB?(I will try that now:)...
Thanx in advance

10 minutes later...Nothing to do with the restart and unfortunately the problem spread to the vanilla RTW....

I would recommend deleting RTW and reinstalling from the beginning. Once you have RTW with the 1.5 patch. Play a game in vanilla and see if the same problem occurs there. If it works, then I would download EB 0.8 again (just in case it was a problem with the download) and install it again.

We have never had this problem before, which suggests something wrong with your setup. This way we can discover at which point it lies.

same problem. Menu is prettymuch all covered up in weird yellow bars and stuff,

upon startup the screen is half-covered in purple static.

edit: Ok, decided to uninstall everything and try to preset the graphical options to a high resolution and such. maybe that will help.
However, not now, as i am agitated and the 0.8 uninstall is slower than the pentium 2 that runs on XP ive got gathering dust somehwere in this house.

couple of other ideas.

Go to the directory you installed EB into and go to eb/data/ and delete the folder called "loading_screen".

Or right-click on the shortcut to EB and open the properties window. On the target line, you should see the following: "-nm -show_err -mod:eb" at the end of the line. Try deleting the -nm part of that and start up the game.

Or right-click on the shortcut to EB and open the properties window. On the target line add the following to the end: -ne

This will open EB in a window (if your desktop is bigger than the resolution size you play the game at and might solve the problem.

Try these options only after you have tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything, and seeing if vanilla works properly.

ditto.

going to try your fix, Foot.

Oh, in a custom battle i got this:

Failed to find texture eb/data/models_unit/textures/units_barb_infantry_dacia.tga

This occurs when it cannot find a texture line in the dmb, can you be more specific with the units and the factions involved - that would be really helpful. I had hoped we had got all these, but apparently not.

Bactria vs Koine Hellenon.

I tried to use faction units only, so i was somewhat suprised to see a problem with a dacian unit (i´m pretty sure i didnt select one).

To the visual problem:

After the installation of eb i had no problems at all, then i got a ctd during a custom battle. I tried to restart the game and the purple backround appeared.

The problem is, things got worse. I restarted again and the screen remained black, but i could hear the main menu backround music AND my other RTW copies (RTR, IB, vanilla) seem to have the same problem now.

:help: , please...

the problem is now also present in a fresh RTW install. i have not experienced this problem before.

edit: oh this is real great, how the hell am i going to solve this? the only cause i can think of is EBv0.8

i had a bit of a wierd problem too. when i started up EB the first time after i installed (i restarted the comp btw), the RTW loading screen came up for about 5 secs then when it was supposed to switch to the EB logo screen where it loads up the screen just when blank and the comp was really screwing around as if it had lost its video drivers or something. i had to restart the comp since it froze eventually.

however when i tried again after restarting it loaded fine.

Did you start the game with the EB icon or RTW one?

i still get the RTW logo come up first even now, not sure if thats normal or not

The unit that is causing a CTD currently is the Baktrian faction's Baktrioi Hippeis. Try to avoid it till we get the first patch out. I reported this problem earlier and we thought we fixed it but it's still causing this problem.

=========================
As for those loading problems, that's bizarre. How could an EB install, that only makes changes in one place (your copy of RTW that you put it on - one set of files really) affect other copies outside of that set of files? We've never had a member or beta tester report a problem remotely like this. Anyone had ideas on it yet?

What video cards do you guys who are having the problem have? Maybe we can figure out at least something that ties those problems together.

I managed to remove the issue on v1.0 by editing the preference file.

I made first time play false into true, and 32 bit colours on the strategymap false --> true
and, AA_QUALITY:AA_HIGH

i was just poking around.

however, on v1.5, this no longer does the trick.

in v1.5 it works when you do it to the preference file in the map preference. i again edited the three options.

AA quality, first time play, and 32bit

it works, installing EB now.

It could be an incompatible preferences file - do we copy one over from the install? It may be that there's a default video setting which looks goofy on PCs with different video cards.

Do you know if we have any beta testers with RTW Gold who can try to replicate this?

Ok, after a long trial´n´error game EB is running fine now.

This is what i did:

1. Deleted all preferences data folders in my RTW copy (and bi)
2. made sure that both desktop and game resolution is 1024*768*32
3. Antialiasing on low setting

Hope this helps!

Unfortunately the problem continues and its even worse....I uninstalled everything that had to do with Rome and Europe Barbarorum and then I reinstalled Rome..The gold version that I own...So I run it to see if it plays normally...And Lo,No!!The problem I had after installing EB pops up in ROme too even without having reinstalled EB...I dont know what happened but I assure u Rome played normally before I first install EB...No I am thinking of installing the first edition of Rome from a friend and then patch it to 1.5 to see what will happen.

Hm, maybe i forgot to mention that i updated my gfx drivers before i installed Rome and EB.

Try this:

Download the newest version of your Video drivers

Uninstall Rome and your Video drivers.

Install new V. d.

Install Rome 1.5

Install EB

Start vanilla Rome and make your changes to the video settings, exit.

Start EB and make exactly the same changes to the v. s.

The game resolution should be the same as the desktop r.
and make sure that Antialiasing is enabled in the driver settings.

At least this is what i did and EB is running fine now and i had the same probs as you.

Good luck, i hope you can make it work !

ive been getting this about 50% of the time so far, starts up fine then does it the next time.

i actually just left the comp and came back later and it had actually unfroze and was back at the desktop, there was an error message which said that 'rtw cannot find directx 9, which is needed to run the game'.

however i have dx9c installed and my dxdiag reports no problems in any regard so im a bit miffed as to why it says that.

anyway im gonna download dx9c again and reinstall it to see if it makes any difference.

crashed on startup two times in a row after installing 9c

im using a nvidia AGP 512mb 7600gs with the latest drivers...

it just seems so wierd, after i click on the EB desktop shortcut it loads a little bit, checks for CD, then the vanilla RTW logo comes up (not in fullscreen mode, just the window thing), then a bit later it gets to the point where its supposed to initialise the EB program... at this point it either 'clicks' right and starts up perfectly or the screen goes black and the computer goes haywire.

edit- i should add also that i did not have this problem in 0.74, or in rtw 1.5 which i was playing a bit before installing 0.8
