Which do you like better?

Being a prim and proper English gentleman, I have to go for tea. Though I'm not an addict nor do I not like coffee. It depends what mood I'm in really, though I'd rather be in a mood which leads to me drinking tea; a much more subtle flavour. Coffee is hard and bitter, more for when I feel like smashing something.

here is some drink for thought: http://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/pto-20051228-000002.html

I favour 'brown'. It's what comes out of army canteens at the end of an exercise. Tastes the same regardless of the label - 'tea', 'coffee', 'beef and onion soup' - it's all the same, and also very very welcome when cold, wet and knackered.

*But otherwise, tea - you get to have scones and cucumber sandwiches with it. Not that coffee doesn't have it's place...

Hot chocolate is probably the best, but I enjoy some tea mostly for its pomposity. Which is a word.

Hot chocolate is the only warm beverage I will drink. Can't stand tea or coffee. I'm assuming you aren't including sweet iced tea in the "tea" category.

I prefer coffee over tea. I do drink green tea every evening though.

No they aren't. I like strong coffee black. I usually just go to starbucks and get a tall house blend, with MAYBE a tiny bit of skim milk, otherwise just black.

Hot chocolate is alright, although a bit sweet for a me. I drink it on occasion. I really like Starbucks Peppermint Hot Chocolate. Now that is good stuff.

I was originally a coffee drinker, but as I age, my palatte is more akin to the subtle flavour of tea.

Though Hot Chocolate is good too. But only in the Cold Northlands .....*sigh*

Tea and Coffee are both good. But I have a preference for a good cup of coffee. Of course that means getting a good french press and freshly ground beans. A solid coffee should always have a good hint of chocolate flavor to it.

As for tea's, iced teas are by far the greatest. Nothing like a ice cold glass of sweet spearmint tea in the summer.

Pompous Tea. Is that from Darjeeling?

Between tea and coffee, there is no choice. I drink both with enthusiasm. There is little finer than sipping a good black coffee in a Paris cafe, or an espresso in Naples, or an oilslick of wonderment in Istanbul. And so on, you get the picture. Coffee is very much an international experience because many cultures can make fabulous coffees.

Foreigners however cannot make tea. :wink3:

For comfort, I am in accord with Somebody Else - I drink brown. Properly timed and stewed, brown is the finest drink for the depths of the soul known to mankind.

Voted coffee as I cannot stand tea and do love a nice strong black coffee. Has to be filtered though none of that instant rubbish.

It's hard to beat the coffee you get from having the grounds in full contact with hot water for the entire brewing process.

For my part though, I tend to like the brighter, light-roasted coffees. Although, there's certainly room for the heavier full-bodied stuff as well.

Coffee in the morning and tea in the evening. I usually buy Brazilian Santos beans and make it old-style, no machine, or a nice Illy espresso if I am short of time. In the evening a good earl grey/lady grey, or (good)jasmin because it kinda makes you high, goodnight!

Definately a french roast or darker for the mornings. For the afternoons nothing beats a medium roast cup of kona coffee.

I have this déjà-vu feeling...

I drink both, but nothing beats the pure joy and enlightnement of a nice cup of coffee, on a sunny sunday morning, in the pleasant company of your lovely wife, both still wearing your pyjama's...

Add to that a piece of chocolate and the concept "heaven on earth" gets a new dimension.

In Italy they have the saying about coffee:

It has to be hot like Hell, dark like Satan, pure as love, and sweet (in english more like fine) as angles.

I'll let that speak for me

What a beautiful thread.

I love a fresh ground Guatemalan no matter what time of day it is. The one cup coffee maker is the device that should be rated the most important of the 20th century...

A good Cappuccino from Coffee Republic occasionally, though most of the time I prefer Tea, preferably with honey and lime or lemon otherwise black with no sugar.

*Shrugs*. Starbucks is close, convenient, and has a good coffee. I don't think its really that expensive. I pay around $1.30 for a decent sized cup. Don't worry, I'm not the kind of person who carries the cup around like a status symbol.

Tea is heavenly only if it has no milk, is made with tea leaves and is mixed with lemon juice and large amounts of brown sugar. Place a mint leaf on the top and it tastes beautiful. Also if you are really hungry have a fruit loaf with some cheese on with it. The perfect combination

Many years ago I helped build a private railroad for a tourist attraction in the middle of a really hot summer.

My job was bolting the rails together. Both the rails and the bolts had been salvaged from a one hundred year old shipwreck, and they had a hundred years worth of rust on them.

In order to do the job I was given a ratchet with a five foot extension handle. Basically it was a matter of standing over the rail connection, and pulling the ratchet handle toward my chest to tighten the bolts. Even with the leverage from that five foot ratchet handle, it was a really tough job. After just a couple of weeks, I kid you not, my pecs and biceps were as big and hard as Schwarznegger's in his prime.

Every couple of hours we would stop for a smoko. The boss would light a fire with some scraps of wood, put the billy on and boil some water and throw some tea in it.

We'd have it with some sugar to taste, can't recall now if we used milk at all, but that tea was far and away the best beverage I have ever tasted. It really was like manna from heaven. It seemed to flow into every pore of my body like rejuvenating nectar. Ever since, I've had a soft spot for tea.

Tea is better. My current stock is some White Tea, Pai mu tan, not the best but still good. My local tea merchant has a nice tea in stock just now, a single estate ceylon, with some of his own honey. That's next on my list...

HA!
People who rap on about the different flavour's in coffee are nony-non-nons
and noosy-watsits.
I do like a Mocha sometimes, but that's about it. There is nothing that can beat a good cup of Dilma Green Tea aaaaahh. Most people I know drink coffee because thos nonys the yanks do, or because those nanywoms the Italians and French make it look sexy. Its a fad. Tea is an institution!

Anyway, why are we talking about tea and coffee, ales are far more interesting and open up many possibilities after a few rounds.
