Hi Guys

Do i need to win the small or long campaign to unlock all of the fractions on the campaign?

Thanks

The hard way: to unlock a faction you need to annihilate it in the game.

Simpler way: go to \Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign, make a copy of the file descr_strat.txt (so you can keep the original). Also right click and remove the tick from Read Only.
Open it and you will see a list of the playable and unlockable factions.
Move the factions from unlockable to playable and voila.

Have a look in the file, there are more interesting things you can modify but be sure you keep the original version!

Some consider the latter to be cheating ... I don't :)

If I would know how to create links I could give you some cause the question was asked and answered many times before.

Instead: play a short or long campaign or follow the hints of frogbeastegg, copied by me:

"
xxx needs to be unlocked before you can play as them. To do this you can either complete a campaign (on any difficutly, long or short setting) with one of the five starting factions, or you can edit the preferences file. To do this open your Sega/M2TW folder/data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign, find the file called "descr_strat" and open it with wordpad. Now find the section which says
Code:
campaign imperial_campaign
playable
england
france
hre
spain
venice
end
unlockable
sicily
milan
scotland
byzantium
russia
moors
turks
egypt
denmark
portugal
poland
hungary
end
nonplayable
papal_states
aztecs
mongols
timurids
slave
end
Change it so it reads

Code:
campaign imperial_campaign
playable
england
france
hre
spain
venice
sicily
milan
scotland
byzantium
russia
moors
turks
egypt
denmark
portugal
poland
hungary
end
nonplayable
papal_states
aztecs
mongols
timurids
slave
end "

Winning either the long or short campaign will do it, or you can cheat by editing textfiles (see the stickied faq).
