View Full Version : PC Brigade Try to Ban Christmas
The rotters!
How dare they!
The Xmas Phoney War (http://www.guardian.co.uk/christmas2006/story/0,,1967367,00.html)
Ok, this is actually serious? Got to be a joke article :inquisitive:
the should remate it "present giving time", as anything with the word winter in it might offend people from countries that don't have a winter...
All of which might be reasonable, were it not for a few awkward facts. Luton does not have a festival called Luminos. It does not use any alternative name for Christmas. When it did, once, five years ago, hold something called Luminos one weekend in late November, the event didn't even replace the council's own Christmas celebrations, let alone forbid anyone else from doing anything. Similarly, Christmas is not called Winterval in Birmingham. The Royal Edinburgh Hospital for Sick Children never banned a Christmas CD for mentioning Jesus. And Chester council's "un-Christian" Christmas card says - as cards have done for decades - "Season's Greetings".
Hah, now I see the point of the article.
Personally, I think the more festivals I'm legally obliged to party for the better.

That's offensive to those of us who only want to get presents.
:wink3:

Besides, "Get-annoyed-with-family-and-eat-cold-turkey-and-veg-whilst-drinking-too-much-mas" would be far more accurate.

"We get this every year," a press officer sighs, eventually. "It just depends how many rogue journalists you get in any given year. We tell them it's *******, but it doesn't seem to make much difference."
Says it all really. However, I do think those tacky, extravagent light displays should be banned. They're just an offense to plain old fashioned good taste

So is this an editorial? As it certainly seems written like one. I guess for the Guardian, there may be no difference. And I'm not going to put a lot of trust in what they say - they are definately biased and their 'news' reflects that.
The American War on Christmas, like the British one, relied on a grab-bag of tenuous stories that crumbled on closer analysis.
The writers provided a lot of facts to back that one up, didn't they? Or not.

when houses are covered in crap like that and wasting power to have a flashing deer, i'm not surprised that people want to ban christmas...
then again.... i love christmas, i'll continue to call it christmas even if there were laws against it (which would be ridiculous), now are there any Hindu/Muslim/Buddhist/Jewish festivals that we can ban instead? :clown:
Begs the questioj, wtf the church steal that date in the calendar from? :inquisitive:
If I'm understanding your question, I think the Church took the date for Christmas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas) either from the a Mithras celebration or from Saturnalia. The iconography is pure Germanic paganism.
Doesn't stop me from enjoying Christmas, though.
It's from an old celtic ritual, the return of spring. It was celebrated on the longest day of the winter, the christmas three is a symbol for just that.

It was celebrated on the longest day of the winter, the christmas three is a symbol for just that. You mean the three wise men from the East? That would be Twente, then.
Wie nie weet wat Höken is, die weet echt nie wat-ie mist! :smash:  :clown:

And that is exactly why I don't take the bible literally, there is Herman Finkers, that is one. You try finding the other two.
Christamks really annoys me, its become horribly commercialised, it should be kept as a religious festival --> banning it is wrong though, :2thumbsup:
The tree with the balls come from the germans really, if I'm not mistaken. Evil spirits or demon-like creatures would see themselves reflected in the balls and would be scared and stay away.

True Rabbit ,it is the Guardian , but you will note that two of the main sources it counters as sources for these so called stories happen to be the Sun and Daily Mail ,who are well noted for their objective and accurate non sensationalist journalism .:laugh4:
BTW your current incumbant (or should that be incompetant)muppet is noted for stating that he does not read the Guardian , I wonder how many recent Presidents of your country you could name who were not regular subscribers to this particular newspaper , and I wonder if you could possibly find any that would have bothered reading the Sun or Mail ?
So onwards .
Well I did consider carefully if I should post this , but since it is already in the link it must be OK language wise , it is after all a newspaper that has no age restrictions affecting its availability for purchase .
Perhaps the most notorious of the anti-Christmas rebrandings is Winterval, in Birmingham, and when you telephone the Birmingham city council press office to ask about it, you are met first of all with a silence that might seasonably be described as frosty. "We get this every year," a press officer sighs, eventually. "It just depends how many rogue journalists you get in any given year. We tell them it's bollocks, but it doesn't seem to make much difference."
So would that everyday but possibly offensive language suggest that this regular annual run of "anti-Christmas PC fascism at its worst" stories is somewhat of the testicular variety ?

What does it matter?
I'm not convinced of a 'war on Christmas' yet in Britain, but this 'article' does nothing to convince me there is no struggle- especially its ignorant blanket statement about America.

Well it matters in as much as for you to think that former Presidents who you probably admire like Reagan and Bush snr. read it as a reliable (though as with all media biased) newspaper , even if it did contain things that they didn't agree with , yet your current muppet doesn't like to read anything that doesn't fit with his small minded idiotic mentality .
Either way is incorrect.
:laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4: Even now there are still some out there who believe Bush Jnr. is able to do his job .
I could really care less if some overreactive muslim in my community gets mad at someone saying "merry christmas". There is a fine line between caring too much about someone feels, and not enough.
O, and I hardly think the christrian community is going to lash out in violence. Maybe protest, or send nasty e-mails. But your not going to get molotivs being thrown in windows anytime soon.

He doesn't read newspapers at all, according to at least one statement he's made. Nor does he watch television news. He gets all of his news from his advisors. The man is willfully ignorant. It's scary.
Back on topic:
The "War of Christmas" never ceases to amaze me. If the adherents really want to end the war on Christmas, then they should first go after the corporations which managed to successfully commercialize the holiday and turn it into a conspicuous consumption fest. Then they can go after all the pagan associations with the holiday, from the date which was slapped onto an existing pagan holiday to help convert the heathens to the pagan symbols like the decorated tree and the wreaths and the wassail bowl (for those who do it). After all that, maybe it might make sense to go after the sillier aspects of the so-called War on Christmas.

Here's a very literal war on Christmas story:

Man Charged in Shopping Mall Jihad Plot
By MIKE ROBINSON
A Muslim convert who talked about his desire to wage jihad against civilians was charged Friday in a plot to set off hand grenades at a shopping mall during the Christmas rush, authorities said.
Investigators said Derrick Shareef, 22, of Rockford, was acting alone and never actually obtained any grenades.
"He fixed on a day of December 22nd on Friday ... because it was the Friday before Christmas and thought that would be the highest concentration of shoppers that he could kill and injure," said Robert Grant, the agent in charge of the Chicago FBI office.
Authorities said Shareef had been under investigation since September, when he told an acquaintance that "he wanted to commit acts of violent jihad against targets in the United States as well as commit other crimes."
The acquaintance immediately informed the FBI, officials said.
Federal officials said Shareef planned to set off four hand grenades in garbage cans at the CherryVale shopping mall in Rockford, about 90 miles northwest of Chicago.
He was charged with one count of attempting to damage or destroy a building by fire or explosion and one count of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction.
"While these are very serious charges, at no time was the public in any imminent peril," U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald said in a news release.
Other potential targets that Shareef allegedly discussed included government facilities such as courthouses and city hall, authorities said.
Shareef and his acquaintance cased the mall on Nov. 30, discussing the layout and spots where they might set off several grenades simultaneously to create more pandemonium, according to an FBI affidavit.
A spokeswoman for the mall said officials were cooperating with the investigation but referred all other questions to the U.S. attorney's office.
I wouldn't be surprised if they read it, but their actions 15 years ago hardly effect today. And if Bush is so stupid, how come Kerry got lower grades at the same college?
Even now there are still some out there who believe Bush Jnr. is able to do his job .
You realize you spelled incumbent wrong, right?

I'm sure someone at the BBC is active on this board -- every day this week there has been a news item on Radio 4's breakfast news that reflects a hot topic from the Org the day before.... :beam:
This demonising of multiculturalism croppped up this morning. It's another straw-man controversy, promulgated by the trolling gutter press (Mail, Sun, Telegraph :clown: )
Trolls: 75% of council employees can't say "Merry Christmas" at work
BBC: couldn't find a single person so banned
Trolls: You can't call it Christmas any more
BBC: couldn't find any ban anywhere
Trolls: Other faiths are offended so want it banned
BBC: all members of other faiths spoken to thought christmas was fine, and expected, and totally accepted as part of the host culture...
...you see the pattern here? Of course the BBC, just like the Guardian, is a hotbed of rampant atheistic crypto-Marxist mind-controlling propaganda without any journalistic virtue at all :beam:
If anyone's destroyed Christmas, it's those who are supposedly supporting it - with tacky dazzling electricity wastage, conspicuous over-consumption, self-indulgent bingeing, performance anxiety over spending on presents, wilful extension of indebtedness etc etc etc.
And from CR's last post, my emphasis added:
"He fixed on a day of December 22nd on Friday ... because it was the Friday before Christmas and thought that would be the highest concentration of shoppers that he could kill and injure," said Robert Grant, the agent in charge of the Chicago FBI office.
And following on from Aenlic's points, let's reclaim all the hijacked pagan traditions from the cultural imperialism of the church. For a start, Easter (Eostre) was a pagan goddess - can't even find their own names for events! How many early saints were actually bowdlerised pagan deities? Certainly in the Celtic world there were many (St Bridget is one that springs straight to mind). So let's have less whingeing about who's renaming what, and who's outlawing whose religion here.

But their actions of of the past do effect today . Both of those republican Presidents I mentioned had lots of dealings withthe mid-east , neither attemted something quite as stupid as shrub , because they viewed and were advised from wider sources that didn't neccasarily agree with their mindset .
Junior however doesn't like hearing things that don't agree with his degree of can do idiocy .
Which has lead your country into a mess whose implications are far worse for the US than vietnam could ever have possibly become .
Oh and you measure Juniors level of intelligence against someone who cannot even say a pre-written Joke without screwing it up , thats a great measure of your leaders ability .:dizzy2:

Banning Christmas in western society is about as likely to be successful as banning Ramadan in Iran. And why it can be called "political correctness" to forbid a culture in the name of multiculturalism escapes me.

However, I must add, when stores start putting up Christmas trees and stuff in November, it seems like a good idea to make a law against putting up Christmas stuff before say 10th-20th december.

I'm actually signing up for the Anti-Christmas brigade myself. Between me and the org, we'll launch an attack against every Wal-Mart on December 24th. Every Santa-wannabe will be executed on sight with ancient German weaponry. Every police who tries to stop us will be captured for a victory feast sacrifice.
And Mithras shall be restored to his rightful place. ~:santa:

I actually DO think there is a PC war on Christmas, but Seattle isn't a fair example. The Rabbi didn't necessarily want the trees removed. He asked for the right to put a Menorah up in the airport as well. The airport staff decided to take the trees down, rather than allow equal access to the Jewish folks.

We discuss, on a pretty regular basis, how difficult it is to decipher the truth from newspapers and television, I don’t think getting his news from his advisors is a bad thing, he surely looses an audiences connection the common folk get by watching their favorite celebrity er, uh, respected journalist, but surely saves time trying to figure out the real news. His biggest mistake in this regard is telling people he doesn’t watch or read the news.
