I don't recall the last time I've been this depressed about anything... My epic Carthage campaign was going great. Punic wars started exactly one year ago. I had made significant progress, a great battle defending Messana and moving North, taking Rhegion. My main man Hamalcar was moving towards Capua, camped near Mount Vesuvius. As expected, the large Roman army garrisoning Capua came out to meet me before I could get to them. Best. Battle. Ever. Truly epic, so fun, so great.

When it was over, and as I was taking screenies of the post-battle stats, I had a funny feeling... that scared feeling you get when playing mods, betas especially, that something could go wrong at a time like this. You shrug it off, ready to save the game as soon as the campaign map loads....... but that chance never came. Crash after the load screen.... ~:mecry: Seriously. I sat frozen for a few minutes. My gf is consoling me on the phone now. It's heartbreaking. Of course, reloading and autoresolving yields a clear loss everytime, and I can't bear repeating the battle. Unfortunately, I think my 0.80 Carthy campaign must come to a premature close ~:( . Maybe I'll wait on the patch to start another one... another faction....... *sigh* This was really the best campaign in a long time.

Here are the shots of the location and situation, maybe devs'll know what caused it or it can be of some help. I can post the save-game if necessary.

Well, you might just have ruined my night there. If it keeps happening upon reload it means that goddamn bug that shall not be named (lest he rears it's ugly head) might be back.

Did the other generals live? If it was just one general, isn't something different? Or was it just any reinforcement battle?

I don't believe either the enemy general of the large army or the enemy captain of the attacking small group died in the battle. Neither did mine of course. Well, good news for me is I found a save file a turn before the madness, so all is well now... except I don't have that epic battle on Hamalcar's resume and I had to do a few things different.

-edit-
Oops! I mistakingly said the captain-lead army was the attacker, when in fact they were the reinforcements. The general lead army attacked me.

An off-topic question if I may. I was gonna' make another thread for it but I might as well ask here. I took Arpi and checking the building browsers, neither of the MIC variants yield any troops for me. I implemented a type 4 gov with hopes of quick military recruitability like it says it's for, but nothing. Will 2nd tiers of the MIC's give me something? If so, which one is best to invest in in that area playing the faction I am? And lastly, will this be tweaked so as to have at least some unit recruitable even at the first level MIC?

sell a building or two
buy 4 - 5 units of mercks and autoresolve

This is my goal, but I'm just one person. ~:)

I know this has nothing to do with the topic, but the ai sure does have a balanced army composition, even has gaulish allies in there

if i were you i'd just reload and use either-

auto_win attacker

auto_win defender

depending on the situation, and continue from there.

Thanks guys but I already resumed the campaign. I had a save file a bit earlier I had forgotten about in the madness that ensued the crash.
