The year was 246, my army was up in the far north having just successfully 'annexed' Scandinavia as part of my growing Germanic empire, then, without warning... Belgae rebels attacked my city on my north western frontier bordering their territory. I quickly raised as many local forces as I could before they attacked as my army wasn't about to return in time, all I could manage to raise was a warband and a militia.
They greatly outnumbered my garrison of only my governor's unit and a militia, with the re-enforcements I raised stationed outside behind the encroaching army lead by his son who was the governor of the town south of his.
The Belgae attacked with two battering rams and their force of swordsmen, archers, militia and Noble cavalry, my governer's unit of Ferulharjoz defended the front gate and the tribal militia defended the left flanking wall.
The Belgae battered down the gates and charged forward trying to overwhelm my meager forces but miraculously they held, longer then even I reasonably expected even routing one unit of noble calvary. For his part my governor and his men fought to the death defending the gate taking two or more heads for each man slain and the tribal militia now reduced to 24 men routed to the center of the fort.
As the Belgae formed into ranks and followed the re-enforcements 'controlled by the AI' came through the back gate and joined my desperate militia in the defense. The governor's son's unit made what seemed a bee-line for the enemy general and slew him, and after some fighting in the square the enemy routed...all that remained of the original garrison was four tribesmen.
It was absolutely EPIC and one of the funnest battles I've ever been in, I wish I took screens but I was so consumed with the action that I didn't think of it :furious3:.
Now, I am planning my revenge'read:total ethnic cleansing of'on the Belgic tribes...they will rue the day they spilled the blood of a Sweboz chieftain.
I'm actually legitimately mad, you kinda form an attachment to each of your characters what with the RPG like character development, that and as the Sweboz since their Ferulharjoz are really kickass infantry I like to fight with them forming the front of the 'wedge' formation I like to use...just to make it all feel more authentic.
This build has REALLY succeeded in sucking me into the characters and the game and setting...brilliant job!
