I'm playin as the Romani, with around 25 family members, and all of them are rubbish. A few of them have full influence, but only two of them have any command, one has 1 and one has 2. I have a Ludus Magnus or at least Academy in nearly all my cities, but my Generals just stay rubbish. Meanswhile, the Aedui, Arveni, and Iberians all have more than five Generals each, each General with at least 5 of each skill (Command, Management, Influence). The only good General I have is one I bribed from the Aedui, he has 7 Command.
Is there any reason why my Roman Generals are rubbish?
Well with 25 generals, I'm sure not all of them have had many battles, if any at all. You don't get to become a great general by sitting around in a city. Even if you go out and fight, you have to have something special to become truly great. That's one thing (among infinitely many) EB has done well, making sure not every general becomes a 7-10 star behemoth for no reason. Just pay attention to your general's traits, and if you see one has good potential develop them. You can get good leaders, you just have to work for it.

Heh, ironic how you're playing the Romans, Caledonian Rhyfelwyr. Traitor! The quote under your avatar would be ashamed. :shame:

I won 10 battles with my Lusotannan faction heir, and he still had the cheeky 1 command point :laugh4:
If i am correct, this guy would have been a real badass m**********r in real life...
Also, the best generals in the game are rebels... what is up with that?

Command stars mean nothing in EB, we give them to rebels to give their army more moral (without giving their troops better attack, because we recommend medium battle difficulty). Our trait system means that how good your general is is all part of what traits they have, not how many command stars they have. Also you must remember that vigorous generals are far more likely to do well in battle, and receive good traits for winning battles. Also fighting against great odds will help you general get better traits. This isn't vanilla, spend time reading about the traits your general is getting. If he doesn't like attacking, make sure that he is always defending and he will get much better traits.

i'm think we give AI generals a stat boost (including command) to make the game more challenging (read: fun).
edit: err.. what Foot said.
Asina Has 2 sons, one is 32 and he's about to have a triumpus over the gauls, yet he only has 1 star, he's won several Big Battles again the gauls, so im not really sure what thats suppose to represent =)
The key is in the morale bonuses, not the stars. Stars are just little graphics, and yeah I know its a nice aesthetic look to see a general running around with alot of stars, but look at their traits for tons of benefits to them rather than in the star level.

Agreed, all of my best generals have massive morale bonuses but still only have at most 3 command. Stars do basically mean nothing, 'Very confident troops' is far better!:2thumbsup:
you haven't to see that "stars" only on the strat-map, my best general on the strat map had never more than 4 stras, but his retinue and traits gave him a 7 command start on the battlefield in some battles... and it was a great satisfaction.
Also to have 10 c-stars generals without have doing nothing, is boring, cause you can win the battles even not controlling them, just living to fight them to the AI, so there is no challenge...
I have one more question: one of my generals has retinue including ''master of horse'' (sth like that) and ''master of archers''. But even though i had 20% cavalry in my army and i was defending they didn't give me any bonuses like the descriptions said :stupido2:
I have some little silver and gold stars from my daughters craft draw that I stick onto the screen to give my generals soldiers a moral boost.....

So the Command stat has absolutedly no affect in EB? How come giving Rebel Generals higher Command is supposed to make them more challenging then?
Cause rebel generals can't go out and fight and get the morale bonuses, so they give them stars to compensate. Players instead get the morale bonuses why having low star counts.

Sorry, I don't understand. Maybe it is because of my bad english. :embarassed:
i.e.: two generals with no traits. The one has zero stars and the other has got 5 stars.
In battle there is no difference between them???
Stars give troops near the general a morale bonus, traits can give all units in the army a morale bonus. We've made the acquisition of trait-based morale bonuses more likely because we can allow a much greater degree of difference between generals than could be done by stars. However we've given rebel generals a command star boost to help their armies out when you fight them.
Thus, whilst command stars are not useless - they do give morale bonuses - they are no longer a reliable way of telling how good a general is; we fudge them for rebels and we use traits for players.

Going a little off-topic - are you saying that all command stars do in vanilla RTW is alter morale? JeromeGrasdyke said they raised the attack stats of troops, but therother's tests did make him query that:

As far as I am aware, command stars only alter morale. That was the information that EB has been working on.
