In the Throne Room, we are trying to resolve some PBM encounters via MP battles. We've been using Rome Total Realism Platinum Edition and encountered problems (players can't connect - the error message is that they have different versions of the game).

I wonder, how feasible would it be play normal RTW multiplayer, but with the players have a modified set of unit stats (EDU file) and also a modifier set of terrain movement modifiers (to slow down movement)? The idea would be to tweak RTW combat to be a little more like RTRs.

For example, could each player simply mod their EDU in the same way and then just play MP?

It should work econ. I'm surprised RTR doesn't work...

I helped test something on the Chivalry mod that had this same problem with games being displayed as having incompatible data. I think it had something to do with the autogenerated map.rwm files, and was fixed by using the generated files from one computer and copying them across (or just distributing them with the install). Though you'd have to check with them, as I wasn't really involved in it.

jeez people, its simple.

modded EDU files will work, if everyone has the exact same.
Dont play RTRPE play RTR gold, there are multiple MP campaigns for RTR gold and people on all hours of the day waiting to play someone.
