...a heroic victory, then I don't know what is.
What a long and tiring battle it was. Hidden an extra cavalry unit in the trees to suddenly back up when necessary, had two cheap but experienced archer units on top of the hill to rain death upon them as they approached and while everybody was battling, had some cheap infantry units as main infantry. And of course the general.
There were two passages to reach me. One main passage leading up very steep (not to mention much of steepness before that as they went through while being fired at), and one other passage a bit lower next to it on the right, going up. The hill on which my archers stood was on the left, pretty high.
The main passage was where the main battle took place. Two spearmen units on guard mode to hold off the incoming stream of fools, and two extra spearmen units behind these to fall in if necessary. This while my cheap-ass archers constantly gave them an arrow shower from atop.
One extra infantry unit had to fall in to back up this line (or BLOB, whatever you wanna call it :) The other extra infantry unit had to quickly respond going to right passage and block it off because the rest of their infantry came through there. They tried to use it to get to my rear so I protected it with this one unit and sent in my hidden cavalry as a surprise, all the while my general stood strong nearby in between them all to encourage them. But he too had to fight.
I sent his unit in and pushed them back. Back to the stones where from under which they crawled. As they fled I hacked through them taking out as many as I could, sending them to the bowels of Hell.
My general and my other cav now had free passage to go further, go around towards the left and hit the main battle from behind nicely! Well, tough luck. Now THEIR cavalry came in to counter mine and that extra spear unit. As their general came in the fleeing fools came back to join in again. They all fought like animals, like tigers for their life. If my cav and my spear could eliminate these threats then the way would be clear to help their comrades-in-arms by hitting the enemy in their rear locking them in and cutting them off.
Oh I rejoiced! I rejoiced as I saw my cavalry and spears push back yet again the foes. Finally the way was clear! Let's make use of it now! And so I hit them in the back. They kept resisting but after some time it was enough and the whole army routed. My archers' arms were hurting, my melee's sword arms aching, and my enemy is being cut down in the chase! Ahh, beautiful :)
Their general tried to escape, but most of his fleeing unit got cut down. And nicely enough, he himself got cut down by a volley from my archers. Mwuahahahaaaa XD
