Check out these pictures (they're in order) and help me with understanding how in the world this happened!

I'm about to quit the game, so I save and try this attack on Rome (which is full of about 800-900 triarii and roman generals), which I thought would in impossible...

https://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/ZainDustin/MasterGladiators.jpg

I go through all these soldiers without losing even one of my Gladiators.

https://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/ZainDustin/MasterGladiators2.jpg

To my surprise I am able to fight through all the way to the center of the city without losing anyone...

https://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/ZainDustin/MasterGladiators3.jpg

I'm at the last few soldiers left on the opposing team, and still I remain without any losses...

https://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/ZainDustin/MasterGladiators4.jpg

I win the battle.... with a Heroic Victory status.

https://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/ZainDustin/MasterGladiators5.jpg

Heh.... Let me know what you all think.

I think your troops were upgraded and theirs weren't.

Zain

What do you mean by upgraded? Do you mean experience level, weapon level, and armour level? If that's what you mean then yes, they were maxed out on the armour, weapon, and experience, but that still doesn't explain how they killed 800-900 triarii and roman generals without losing one dude.

:bump:

Let's have someone else help me figure this out. It's not every day 21 guys kill over 870...

Looking at the name of the first Senate general might explain something :laugh4:

Triarii are rubbish. They have ok stats when you look at them, but in actual fact their spear bonus and low lethality rating (which you don't see in the game) means they're far less effective against infantry than they appear. Your Gladiators are maxed out in terms of experience and upgrades, plus have 2 hitpoints. For the Triarii to kill a man, they have to score 2 successful attacks, but each attack has a high chance of failure thanks to the difference in stats between the units. So it's hard for them to kill your men unless they surround them. I assume many of the Triarii routed in the streets and your Gladiators killed them as they ran, which would also help explain the slaughter. Even general's cavalry will run and flee and die easily against your gladiators. I suspect the senate army also had some negative morale penalties when their general is called Decius the Idiot.

Now had you been up against some Principes or Legionaries, I'd imagine you'd have lost most if not all your men.

Hi

just notice something puzzling
you said you attacked Rome, then where are the epic stone wall ?
the city buildings looks rather small as well

Was it a custom battle ?

and how was the SPQR army equipped ?
there should have been Principes normally, with 3 bronze chevrons and bronze gear

Zain

It was on the campaign map. My armies had at one time held down the city, but as an army of 2,000 approached the city, I knew the army of 200 wouldn't last, so I destroyed all buildings there and fleed to Naples. In hope of crushing the city from use.

I'll set up a battle with legionnaire or principes and record what happens.

Well maybe it's because you had fully upgraded gladiators that strangely had full experience and golden equipment. Even stranger is the fact that Rome has no walls in the battle, which most likely means that this was a custom battle. Afterall you can't attack Rome that early in the game.

You can't destroy walls.

Sorry, I'm alergic to Bull****

Furthermore.. do those Gladiators have Legionary Eagles? or am I blind/Stupid?

Sneaky, pilfering Gladiators carry legionary eagles. In my modded version of RTW, they also carry loaves of bread and a hankerchief in their pockets incase they should require a sneeze mid-battle. Something you could have done with.

Anyway, clearly all is not what it seems, as 'Rome' appears to be the size of a postage stamp and has less walls than that of the hall that hosts the annual 'International Claustrophobia Sufferers Anonymous Meeting'. Ie none. This is all somewhat suspicious, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ted Danson from Cheers popped out of a tavern in the corner of one of the pictures and shouted out 'NORM!!' to a fat regular patron who was about to appear on screen any moment before the screenshot was taken. Stranger things have been known to happen.

I also forgot to mention in my previous post that the Triarii may have been a bit drunk at the time, having shared a few drinks with Ted Danson and assorted beer drinking chums, thus further explaining their lack of combat prowess against the eagle carrying Gladiators.

I, on the other hand, have had no beers at all your honour and vehemently deny the charge.

Guys, guys! You figured out my riddle, this is no Bull****. I simply asked you people to figure out how this happened, and you did, congratulations. I went in and modded the game to create the ultimate unit. I could kill hundreds of thousands of Rome's finest soldiers with these guys. This was a test of knowledge of the people of the official forum of the Total War games, and you passed. Unsurprisingly I met some sour thoughts on the way.

Thank you for finding out, I was beginning to think I would never get a smart one amongst the pack.

I have one question... why do people always go those thoughts, always thinking someone's just trying to stir up trouble or something. Think about this, I'd like a good answer when I get back tomorrow.

From the descr_strat unmodified, they start with 3 chevrons, bronce sword and bronce shield.

Why there is a strange epic stone wall which is very accurate against enemies?

The enemy general was dead, so the triarii will lose morale, although of this its remains unexlainable.
Or...
You killed an entire triarii unit so that make an chain rout, they doesnt have a chance for killing your units and your velite gladiators followed they and killed.
Where is the general enemy?

Zain

Their general was killed in the huge skermish seen in front of the city on the first picture.

You could somewhat "read" between the pictures and see that after the picture I took was taken the riders of their general showed up and I killed them. Their corpses lie at the upper end of the circle of corpses on the second picture.

read the corpses ?

Wouldn't reading the guts usually take place before battle ?

You apparently didn't read what i said, noob. I never said read the corpses, I said read "between" the PICTURES and fill in the gaps... :inquisitive:

Caius Flaminus... I think the whole wall thing has been established, reviewed, discussed about, and died...

I suppose that it would have something to do with the fact that gladiators are a super elite unit anyway. They are even more destructive when they are given max weapons, armour and experience. I am, however, very surprised that you did all that without losing even one man :san_shocked:

And, if you do a bit of messing about with the game files, you can destroy walls. You can also destroy walls by using a certain cheat too.

I could have solved this "riddle" the first day as I have have created the ultimate unit before.

Try getting Clibinari Immortals unit in BI, upgrade it max experience/armor/weapon and give your ERE enemy how many legions you want, and see how your tanks go through his men like hot knives on butter.

Zain
12-19-2006, 13:40
Usually regular gladiators have something like 11 attack or something, but whenever I edited them, I put in 100 attack, turns out 76 is the highest or something.

Heh i had 14 1 chevon silver kill 2 full 60 man comanties legions.
This was after i kept running and tired em out.even then i lost 8 guys.

The ONLY reason this doesnt seem perfectly feasible is the 2 general units.I mean i could see em fighting across craploads of triarii. But 2 general units?i have almost had my one army brought to the brink of destruction because i couldnt stop em with a phalanx unit.
