View Full Version : speed of army movement on the campaign map
do armies move at different speed/have greator or lesser range, on the campaign depending on their composition?
could i create a rapid reaction cavalry force, and would it be worthwhile doing so?
cheers
Yup, an all-cavalry army will have about 1.5-2 times the speed of an infantry stack on the map. Likewise if there's any artillery in the stack it will move even slower. Stacks move at the speed of the slowest unit in it.

Yeah artillery is a real killer when it comes to movement speed. But at least it means that building siege weapons at the target city never becomes a pointless feature. Still, nothing beats cannons for city wall breaching!
many thanks to both of you.
Tell me about it. I've been known when operating near coastlines to march the army overland while the artillery is on ships, then just drop them off for the assault.
