So, in my France campaign, I am remodelling my army for the 15th/16th Centuries by gradually phasing out some of my older style armies and raising new ones of Pikemen/Arquebusiers/Serpentines/Lancers/Gendarmes.

I would dearly love to augment these formations with a few units of Swiss Pikemen (I already have a Flemish Pikemen brigade in my Northern armies). The only problem is I don't seem to be able to recruit them anywhere. The descr_mercenaries.txt says they should be available in the Burgundy region (Rheims, Dijon...etc etc) after 1400. I'm now in 1415 and have not seen a single unit available for recruitment. I have however, been able to recruit mercenary arquebusiers. What's going on?

Don't worry. They appear from time to time but not only in Burgundy but also in southern France or upper Italy. Let one of your generals take a stroll through these areas and sooner or later you can recruit them.

True, and I have gleaned from another thread that there is a range of numbers (ie. 0.4 - 0.7) and once it = or exceeds 1, 1 unit shows up. So if you get 0.7, 0.2, 0.7, 0.5, 2 units will turn up.

To my understanding that is. (Im not some pro with the files, I dont even have the unpacked ones)

Ah, ok, thanks for the clarification. I'll have a fiddle with the files and see if i can get them to show up a little more frequently. Thanks.

I wouldn't stress about it... Flemish pikemen are better anyway. Swiss Pikemen have better combat stats, but very light armor, which makes them too vulnerable to missile fire in my experience.
